I would just like to hear from any mums netters that have had their baby's or toddlers ears pierced. I was in a shop the other day and was horrified to see a baby of about 9 months old having it's ears pierced. The little poppet screamed the place down and it had obviously caused a huge amount of unnessisary pain and distress to her. It really upset me when my daughter had her vaccinations but at least that was nessessary for her own health.
I'd just like to know your reasons for doing this to your children as I just don't understand it at all. Isn't it a natural mothers instinct to protect your baby? I would like to know the reasons why mothers pay to have their baby's mutalated.
I was 16 when I had mine done and it hurt like hell! To think of babies and toddlers having it done makes me feel quite sick.

absolutely not, I was at least in double figures.

Hulababy · 09/03/2008 20:45

No, my 5yo doesn't have her ears pierced.

I hate to see babies and young children with pierced ears; can't see the point in it and think it is something that actally shouldn't be allowed until a person is old enough to sign a consent or similar themselves.

hercules1 · 09/03/2008 20:46

God, no. D

WallOfSilence · 09/03/2008 20:46

Do you think anyone is going to admit having their baby's ears pierced after such a judgemental OP?

JingleyJen · 09/03/2008 20:49

no

shelleylou · 09/03/2008 20:51

i had my ears pierced at about 7/8 dad didnt agree but he doesnt like piercings full stop. I dont think id get a childs ears pierced untill they were old enough to understand not to pull at them but thats varies with age and my opinion. Dont have that to think about though as ive got a ds

DiscoDizzy · 09/03/2008 20:51

I didn't even need to read the OP, I knew my response by the title.

Octothechildherder · 09/03/2008 20:54

I got all my boys ears pierced when they were 6 months.

Octothechildherder · 09/03/2008 20:54

NOT

mummyloveslucy · 09/03/2008 20:54

I'm giving them the chance to explain their reasons why, I don't understand why they do it so wanted somone to shed some light on the subject. If no-one will then they obviously know how imorral it is and are probubly ashamed. (if not, they should be!)
If I took my daughter in to a buisy department store and stuck a needle in to her, i'd expect to be judged as well.

I saw a baby with pierced ears and a suntan the other week

ChicaLovesHerLocalGreengrocer · 09/03/2008 20:55

Here in Spain it's considered perfectly normal to pierce baby girls' ears. At first it did shock me a little, but now I have to say I've got used to it. But I do think that if I ever have a DD I'll make her wait until she's 13, like I did.

WigWamBam · 09/03/2008 20:56

I don't like it either.

But why on earth should anyone who has had their child's ears pierced have to justify it to you?

"Giving them the chance to explain their reasons why" ... "know how immoral they are" ... get over yourself.

notnowbernard · 09/03/2008 20:57

Immoral?!

mummyloveslucy · 09/03/2008 21:03

wigwambam- you sound like the kind of mother that would do such a thing. I guess this explains a lot, it's certain TYPES of mothers. To me it's leagal child abuse that should be stopped.

mummyloveslucy - you won't win any friends talking to wigwambam like that.

hercules1 · 09/03/2008 21:04

I don't like it but you are taking it too far.

VanillaPumpkin · 09/03/2008 21:05

No, but if my daughter asks to have it done at around 9 years old, I will let her.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/03/2008 21:07

Yikes.

I would say the prevailing MN opinion is very anti ear piercing for small children.

Did you read WWB's post BTW? She said she doesn't like it.

VanillaPumpkin · 09/03/2008 21:07

Blimey 337 posts from you mummyloveslucy. Are you pissed?

TotalChaos · 09/03/2008 21:07

mummyloveslucy is a perfectly genuinely lady, I've chatted to her on here quite a bit about some developmental issues, so really don't think this is a troll scenario, just unfortunate timing.

WWB is a highly principled, kind, tolerant lady.
