I had my first baby when I was 38, no problems, now I would like another but I don't know if I'm too old. Any other "older" mums out there ?

DS born when I was 42 - go for it I do wonder sometimes if I'd be less knackered if I was younger, though.

one of my best friends had her first at 42 and her second at 45, so I'd say 41 is positively spring-chicken-like

Actually, Tee2072, genetic mutations in sperm of men over 35 do increase. Also, male smokers have been found to have fewer and poorer quality sperm. I'm sure there are other interesting sperm facts out there.

The OP asked "but I don't know if I'm too old", and my point is, age is rarely questioned when a man begins a family, or even a second family, or in my dad's case, his third family. So unless the OP has a serious medical condition, or reason to suspect she has limited fertility, why not go for it?

I had DS when I was a few months off 38 (after 8 years of trying and many IVF attempts) and am due again in May just before I'm 40 (conceived 1st month of trying naturally whilst still bf!).

I had amnios with both. I don't know what decision I would have made if there had been a problem (I suspect I would have proceeded with both pregnancies), but I do feel I would have found it helpful to be prepared.

So, no you're not too old at 41! I feel more tired this time, but I think that's due to having a nearly 2 year old and not so much to age.

I realise this is a very old thread….. but just in case?!?

@thecloudhopper out of interest, were you an only child or did you also have siblings?
