The truth is as good as anything ... you don't have to be graphic, just tell her that babies come out through a special, stretchy hole between their mummy's legs. Just answer the question she asks, there's no need to go into any further detail unless she asks you more questions.

thank you rasberryberet.

Yes sinple ands to the point . I will get WHAT HOLE however !!!!!!!

Gawd that's the easy bit. Just wait until DD asks how she got in there.......

porkypoo · 15/03/2007 17:07

I didn't even go into that much detail, just said that baby came out of a special hole and that it was hard work!! Did get the 'but how did it get in there mummy?' Which was a whole other issue!!!!

I agree with raspberryberet, just tell them enough to satisfy their curiosity. If they want to know more they will ask, as I experienced!!! Good luck.

CODalmighty · 15/03/2007 17:09

you pushed it out of your baby hole liek a big poo
ams stunned peopel ar coy about this

flibertygibbetplus2 · 15/03/2007 17:11

Good response from RB, also might find getting her a book about this. We got DD "what to expect when mommy's having a baby" by Heidi Murkoff. It has been great for my DD as it covers how babies are made too!

megandsoph · 15/03/2007 17:20

DD1 found out when I was in a rush to pick her up from the childminders and left the tv on discovery health. I was taking DD2's coat off when I heard a screech followed by "mummy mummy a baby is coming out of the ladies bottom" walked into see a woman giving birth on all fours. explained it wasn't her bottom it is her foof. Is absolutley fine with it now and she doesn't hesitate to keep advising her sister where this baby will be coming out from

melsy · 15/03/2007 17:31

its not so much coy at all cod , have no problem with bums and noonies , but dont want to give her mind overly worrying thoughts. Shes quite sensitve girl , weve already had conversations regarding blood and periods as she was worried she would have blood too.

Don't worry about upsetting her - point out that if it was that terrible to do, you wouldn't have had another one.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/03/2007 17:37

oh gosh i dont like the phrase "baby hole"

ArcticRoll · 15/03/2007 17:39

Agree that it's best to be straight forward about it.
My mum was so embarrassed and coy about it that I think I've gone overboard in telling my dc the facts from very early age.

rowan1971 · 15/03/2007 17:39

Ummmm - am I the only one who uses the word 'vulva'? My four-year-old son is very happy with this terminology. Dunno what will happen when he gets to school tho...

Also have yet to tackle vagina, clitoris, labia, fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus, so some work to do yet.

stretchmarks · 15/03/2007 17:49

we told ds (3.5) who asked how the baby will get out that it will come out of a hole between mummy's legs just like when you have a poo which he found very amusing, stating you're going to poo the baby !!!!!!

melsy · 15/03/2007 17:49

Ok I said dd2 came out of mummies noonie by pushing like a poo, she laughed and said thats funny !!!!! Ok one question tackled for now , probably 20 more before the days out.

CODalmighty · 15/03/2007 18:58

rowan1971 · 15/03/2007 19:04

Just disappeared for a minute there to shut my thumb in the door jamb and rip off my nail, then spend 20 mins with my forehead pressed to the cool tiles of the bathroom floor. Ow.

'The portion of a woman that appeals to man's depravity
Is fashioned with the most enormous care
And what some may consider to be a simple little cavity
Is really a most elaborate affair.
There's the vulva and vagina and the jolly perineum
And the hymen in the case of certain brides
Amd lots of other gadgets you would love if you could see 'em
And the clitoris and lord knows what besides...'

Now, what painkillers can I take while bf-ing, other than useless old paracetamol?

bundle · 15/03/2007 19:06

after explaining how my dd's got out (c/s) - through a "line" cut in my tummy by a doctor, they're now horrified at the "normal" way babies get out

bundle · 15/03/2007 19:06

rowan you can take ibuprofen
or morphine

rowan1971 · 15/03/2007 19:07

Morphine!! that's the one.
