Help! OK so I'm not imaginative, but what does the tooth fairy actually DO with the teeth she collects? I just know DS1 is going to ask soon!

Good question!!!

No idea though!

DS lost his first tooth last weekend while we were staying at a hotel in London. I distinctly remember phoning my Mum around 1st week in Dec 5 years ago to tell her he had just got his first tooth and now he's lost one already. My Baaaaby!

DD thinks the fairies use the teeth like tiny bricks for building fairy castles....is that what you mean?

iceandaslice · 07/12/2006 21:15

Yes, Earlybird.... why does she come for them ? That's not a bad idea from your DD! Thanks. Keep em coming!

Krimbo - I kept my wisdom teeth for ages. Not sure why, now. Had to get rid of them eventually... they stank!

We were told the good toothfairy needed them for all the new babies. I'm a bit at how long I actually believed that now.

worcestercaroline · 07/12/2006 21:23

to build her fairy castle in fairyland

iceandaslice · 07/12/2006 21:28

Not sure I like the idea of teeth recycling, northstar! Which reminds me of an amusing anecdote... just after my Grandad died, Gran's false teeth went missing. Anyone care to guess where they were?

worcestercaroline.... did i just kill this thread?!!

OP posts:
worcestercaroline · 07/12/2006 21:40

no I dont think so, its still going

worcestercaroline · 07/12/2006 21:41

go on where were they

EllieChocolateOrange · 07/12/2006 21:43

My Mum made me a necklace made of 'teeth' (well they were like little drop 'pearls') - just the right sioze for a small girl. I still have it.

Other ideas...
They use the teeth as stools at their miniature tables
They plant them and they grow into daisies
They give them to babies who have no teeth yet!

iceandaslice · 07/12/2006 21:48

In Grandad's mouth. Fortunately they lived next door to the undertaker's. Gawd, that looks so unbelievable.... it's true tho.

worcestercaroline · 07/12/2006 21:50

so did he have 2 pairs in his mouth!! or were his somewhere else in the house??

pelvicfloorSNOWmore · 07/12/2006 21:51

The fairies make them into little teacups ,plates and bowls and sometimes special toys for the fairy babies.

iceandaslice · 07/12/2006 21:53

His were missing. They would have to have been very stupid to put two sets in!

OP posts:
worcestercaroline · 07/12/2006 22:03

that is true very stupid!!!

summer111 · 07/12/2006 22:49

The tooth fairies use them to build fairy houses...surely EVERYONE knows that !!
My daughter is visited by a tooth fairy called Titannia and my son's is called Fiala. They write little notes to the fairies and always get replies.
(my husband thinks I'm crazy and reading this, I'm beginning to believe him!)fwink

iceandaslice · 08/12/2006 08:21

summer - I was either a child who wasn't very inquisitive, or I have a dreadful memory. Probably the latter, having two DSs. Thanks for helping me out everyone.

My tooth fairy was call Fairy Chatterbox (who'd write 2 A4 sides of a letter of gossip from Fairy land), my siblings had Fairy Bigbum, Fairy Hairy and the very Rude Fairy (who would regularly insult my brother saying he smelt of poo after he accidentally swallowed his first tooth and she had to hunt for it in the sewage farm)

We got letters from our fairies, and every so often a note from Titania Queen of the Fairies. They would come and take the magic out of our teeth to use and leave the useless dead teeth behind as they are too small to carry them.
My father didnt do much right and was generally a very nasty man, but I still have all my fairy letters he wrote for us and we still talk about them. Its the one thing he did right

cruisemum1 · 08/12/2006 14:16

dd 9 in 5 weeks still believes in the tooth fairy and writes notes when her teeth fall out.She always gets a reply too . The teeth are most definitely used to make fairy castles, wishing wells etc. If they have been well looked after they are used on the thrones. Surely everyone knows that . Enjoy spinning the yarn....

BettySpaghetti · 08/12/2006 14:35

Prepare yourself for lots more questions!

DDs second tooth came out recently and she decided she wanted to ask the tooth fairy a couple of questions. The trouble is she has about 3 books about tooth fairies and I was terrified of contradicting what the books said and being caught out.

In the end I wrote a suitably vague reply but she was so excited about it that it didn't bother her that the answers weren't black and white.

cruisemum1 · 08/12/2006 14:42

a good ploy this time of year is to write v short/evasive note saying fairies are v busy with xmas preparations so cannot write much at the mo.....

MrsH34 · 08/12/2006 14:59

My DD aged 9 has a tooth fairy called Rosalind Whirley who she corresponds with (care of my imaginative Sister)whenever she looses a tooth. We tried to 'retire' the tooth fairy last year but DD was so upset she had to come out of retirement just for her. She also brings her special presents at birthdays and Xmas. My DD thinks its funny her letter smell the same as her Aunty though!

tinkersbelles · 09/12/2006 01:00

My sister and I had tooth fairies called Plaquetta and Dentina.... They left us tiny little notes and 20p pieces in exchange for our teeth which they used to make handles of toothbrushes and combs for their hair apparently !!! When we turned 18 we got a small bag given to us both with all of our lost teeth in...... so the fairies obviously didn't use our teeth at all
You wouldn't believe our parents are teachers !! No imagination at all...
