Late crawlers - reassure me DS3 is going to get it one day... preferably before Uni

So DS3 is coming up to 11 months old. He's been rolling over since 5 months, able to push up to sitting from lying down, rotates round on the spot - but is not crawling. He wants to, gets in position and either goes backwards (and gives up) or flops on his belly rather than cross crawl. DS1 was crawling at 8 months, DS2 at 6 months and they both went straight into it so I'm unsure if this is something I should be worried about or not. He loves his jumperoo and likes to stand and put weight on his feet so I don't think there are physical development issues with his legs. How late did your late crawlers start moving?

None of mine crawled before 12 months, the earliest to walk was 15mo. Dd1(9) regularly wins hurdle races, dd2 (7) just swam 20 lengths without stopping, ds (4) can run fast enough to get himself distance from any mischief he might have been involved in.

Younger children have the advantage of willing siblings to give toys etc to them so don't need to get them themselves. Being older to move also had the advantage that they were slightly more sensible!

Ds was cruising at 9 months, but didn't crawl till the week before he was 1 - then he was off like he'd been doing it for months. He started walking independantly shortly after and never crawled again. He hasn't stopped running round since!

Thank you both - that's really reassuring! We've just been away for a week with the inlaws and all the comments about DS3 and his lack of movement started to get to me.

Dd was almost 1. Walked at 20mo. She is far from 'behind' and races ahead now!

Ah the inlaws - I was apparently potty trained by 12 months and dh said his first word at 12 weeks. Our children were always behind where they thought they should be. I gave up listening and the children did it in their own time. They now seem more than happy with their progress. Maybe have some stock responses about his brothers always getting things and being easier being able to put him down and he will stay there while you run after the others. If you are worried though a health visitor should be able to check him over and advise if they see anything.

DS didn't crawl until 11months, and even then reluctantly.

He is now 13 months and has been confidently walking for 3 weeks now!

They all catch up eventually!

DD didn't crawl til 10.5mo, but started walking at 13.5mo, so I agree not to worry. I think it's a personality thing, as much as physical. DD is still slightly more cautious than some other kids that throw themselves around.

DTS1 crawled at 11 months, walked at 14.5 months
DTS2 crawled at 9 months, walked at 12.5 months

DS1 didn't crawl until 11 months and wouldn't even try to walk until 20 months.

He was super duper cautious until he was about 6yo and is now no different from his peers apart from not taking any risks when it comes to climbing, jumping from heights etc.

DD didn't crawl until 12 months, walked at 16 months and is now a very active 6yr old with excellent hand-eye coordination. DS crawled earlier so was expecting him to walk earlier, but he didn't walk until 16 months either.

DD didn't crawl til a few days after her first birthday and then didn't walk til 18 months. She hasn't sat still for a moment since so enjoy this short period of immobility while it lasts.

Both my DD and now DS started crawling at approx 11 months - I didn't even realise it was particularly late.
DD walked just after 1st birthday.
They all seem to focus on different things and get there in their own good time.
Ignore other people's comments unless you are concerned.

My ds is nearly 11 months and has only just started to crawl. He will get there!

Mine didn't crawl until 15 months, nor walk until 21 months.
Sat on a blanket looking at things, thinking and getting fatter and fatter.

Meant he stayed a baby for much longer than many left babyhood behind and entered toddler hood, but all is well now.

Was quick to know colours, numbers and to be able to concentrate for long periods.

DD1 sat on her pretty little tush till around, ooh, over a year? Didn't walk till 18 months or so. And when I say 'walk' I mean 'a few guided steps'. Ho yes.

She's now 13 and really rather good at walking.

DD is 14 months old now and doesn't crawl.
I just don't think she was interested.
However, she's a keen bum shuffler and some babies just like to bum shuffle.
It gets her from a to z a lot quicker than she could crawl, I tell you.
Now she can walk though she does it slightly less, but she still can do it quick as a flash! :)

My DD never crawled... or rolled... or bum shuffled... or showed any interest in moving around at all! That was until a week before her first birthday, when she let go of the chair in the cafe and started walking. She was so good so fast, that, despite advice to the contrary, we had to get her shoes within the week!

I asked the HV at her 8mo check, and she pretty much said they didn't worry as long as they were sitting up properly.

I wouldn't worry too much - as others have said, just enjoy it while you don't have to have eyes in the back of your head. DD is now a speedy little fecker, and can disappear in seconds when she wants to!

Thank you all - its v reassuring as his big brothers would never bloody well stay still. However my non crawler baby somehow managed to traverse my bed just now so he could topple off the far side (!) While I was closing the window (all of 3 seconds) so it appears he's figuring it out. Just an inopportune moments!

DD crawled at 12 months, but only for about two weeks before she walked.

Sorry not read all the posts, but my DC3 was MASSIVELY late on the movement front, so much so we referred to a physio as she just didnt want to move ANYWHERE!!

She didnt roll until 17 months, took her first steps at 21 months, and NEVER crawled, just bum shuffled everywhere (we had alot of bum-worn trousers).

I, too, worried about the lack of movement, but physio said everything physically fine (had hips scanned etc). I think she was just a 3rd baby that didnt need to move anywhere because older brother and sister fetched everything for her.

She's been the same with speech - loads of babbling from a very early age, but no real words until very recently (now 2 and half). She might be referred to a speech therapist but she has sudden quick spurts of learning to say lots of new words, so again nobody is particularly worried.

Thank goodness she's an october baby as she seems quite behind developmentally at lots of milestones, but does get there in the end - I figure by the time she starts school she'll be quite old for her year group so will hopefully have caught up somewhat by then!!

My lovely DD is very nearly 12 mths old and no crawling here either yet! I'm sure she'll get there one day, at the moment I'm trying to enjoy finding her where I left her when I pop to make a cuppa :-)

Your baby may never crawl, but she will move. Ds1 learnt to crawl at 16mo. I would have been more worried if he hadn't been walking since 1 year.
