What age did your baby sleep through?

Hi all, I'm new on here so it's nice to meet you :).

Just after some info on when your baby slept right through the night? I'm talking 7pm-7am. I have a 10 week old girl who has always been really good at night night and is currently going down at 7ish, wakes at around 2 for 5 ounces and then goes back down until 7. Like I say, it is good and I do feel lucky but I have friends with babies just slightly older who claim their baby went right through from around 8 weeks.

I'm also interested to know if you did anything different to achieve the all nighter or did it just happen?

Thank you! Xxx

18 months for ds1.
Ds2 is 6 months nowhere near.

CountBapula · 21/11/2012 14:22

My DS (2.2) has never slept 12 hours in his life. His record is 8pm-7:30am which he's done a handful of times. He started reliably sleeping through 8-6:30 about three weeks ago

Sirzy · 21/11/2012 14:24

He was 3 last week, I could count the number of times he has slept through on one hand.

And now he is potty trained we have him waking for a wee as well as random wake ups!

1stMrsF · 21/11/2012 14:25

Still not (at 3.5). DT1 mostly manages 7pm - 6am, and only wakes in the night once a week or less. She did that first at 13m. DT2 still wakes more nights than not at least once/twice. Stopped feeding them at night at about 8m but until then it was the fastest way of getting us all back to sleep so I was in no rush to stop! Nothing I tried seemed to make the slightest bit of difference, and then just as I gave up trying, DT1 did, so I think they will do it when they are ready and not because of anything you do.

I love these threads Grin

DS - 5 years or thereabouts (half way through reception)
DD1 - about 18 months sometimes, about 2 years consistently
DD2 - currently 17 months and wakes 3 times on a good night, more if teething pain is bad or she has a cold.

All three have had a strict bedtime routine from a couple of weeks old.

You know how people say "if my first had been like that we wouldn't have had another"? We had another two!

youngblowfish · 21/11/2012 14:28

DS - 13 months. They were long 13 months.

Sounds like yours is a brilliant sleeper, DS would be up for a feed at least 3 times a night at that age.

I think our story is unusual, we cut gluten out of his diet (suspected gluten intolerance) and he started sleeping through within a week (after months and months of waking up at least 2 or 3 times a night). He is still on a gluten-free diet and we are waiting for advice from a paediatric nutritionist. Sleeps like a charm 7pm-8am.

I never had the stomach for CC and he is still being BF (18 months).

QuickLookBusy · 21/11/2012 14:30

Dd1 6-6 at 11 weeks old.

She very rarely slept during the day, so we were both exhausted by 6ish. Once she was asleep I'd give her a dream feed at 11and then not a peak until morning.

Dd2 about 2 years old Hmm

She had two naps a day and she was never a great sleeper at night. We ended up cosleeping and it was very much easier from then on.

So I did the same thing initially with 2dds but there were very different outcomes. i firmly believe that babies have their own personalities and needs.

ItsGonnaBeFine · 21/11/2012 14:32

DC1 was 2.5 years old
DC2 was 6 weeks old

Nothing I did (or didnt) do!

lurkingaround · 21/11/2012 14:32

4.5 years old, and still gives a shout in the middle of the night! Likes to know we're around!

I believe they do eventually sleep thru.......

JessieEssex · 21/11/2012 14:32

About 8 months - from about 5 months onward she was only waking once, so very manageable.

Indith · 21/11/2012 14:34

1- 5 and a half months
2- I honestly don't know. She will be 4 at Christmas and while she sleeps all night maybe 50% of the time I still feel surprised if I've not had to kick dh to deal with her get up to her.
3- is 8 months and wakes a lot still.

Wowserz129 · 21/11/2012 14:37

Just because your baby sleeps through now, that could all change next month so don't hold your breath lol!!

11 months and still wakes over hereConfused

ThoughtsPlease · 21/11/2012 14:40

DD1 & DD2 12 weeks
DS - 7 weeks

All were EBF and treated in the same way, although DS has quite a different day time than DDs had as he gets dragged on school run after school activities etc that DDs didn't have to do.

DD2 often wakes in the night now at 5 years but she just gets in to bed usually without waking me!

Twattergy · 21/11/2012 14:40

From 5.5 months until 9 months. Then disrupted again from 9 to 13 months. Stillpatchy now at 13.5 and it's never 7-7, 7-6 max!

lostconfusedwhatnext · 21/11/2012 14:42

10 or 11 months. I sleep trained.
Both were big babies who slept relatively well from 4 or 5 weeks, but then lost it at 4 months and were fed 2 or 3 times a night till I sleep trained them.

Sleep training method for dc1: by the book. Timed intervals, head stroking, stock-phrase-repeating, endless darting about on the landing etc. Worked in a few days.

Sleep training method for dc1: ignoring for 5 mins, then bringing into bed and not feeding, wearing high necked t-shirt. Short-lived disgruntled snuffling from dc2 and eventually sleep for everyone. dc stopped bothering to wake up after a while with no milk-incentive. Not as quick as proper cc, but easier.

4.5 years. Starting school is a good thing.

notcitrus · 21/11/2012 15:23

Ds - once at 5 months, then not until 20 months. But would feed and settle v quickly.
Dd - slept through from 3-6 months, but she's 9mo now and since then I've been lucky to get a 3 hour stretch...

Belmo · 21/11/2012 15:29

Still wakes 5 or 6 times a night at 14 months.

DialsMavis · 21/11/2012 17:01

About 6 weeks, then it all went tits up at 16 weeks. From 6 months to 21 months she reliably slept around 13.5 hours a night....she.hasn't.slept.for.4.months. Nothing works Sad

Cupcakes24 · 21/11/2012 17:06

DT's - 7-7 at 6wks, still do now at 3.5, pure luck in my opnion.

Emsmaman · 21/11/2012 17:48

DD is nearly 20mo and we are still waiting. she has done 9 or 10 hours a handful of times, mostly when she is coming down with something. Currently doing gradual withdrawal but she seems to have swapped coming into bed with us with needing me next to the cot...last night was up with her sitting next to the cot from 1:15-4am!

Babybeargrylls · 21/11/2012 17:51

Twelve months or thereabouts.

rhetorician · 21/11/2012 18:15

DD1 about 9 months
DD2 - is nearly a year and not a sign - as bad as she was newborn, pretty much

We were more disciplined meaner with dd1, ironically because she was hard to get to settle at first - very hard, so put in routine and sleep cues early, rahter than dd2 who was easy, but is now completely dependent on boob and being in our bed...

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/11/2012 18:18

10 weeks and 12 weeks. from 7-7 consistently.

They still sleep those hours, only the other way round - 7am - 7pm :)
