What age did your baby sleep through?

Hi all, I'm new on here so it's nice to meet you :).

Just after some info on when your baby slept right through the night? I'm talking 7pm-7am. I have a 10 week old girl who has always been really good at night night and is currently going down at 7ish, wakes at around 2 for 5 ounces and then goes back down until 7. Like I say, it is good and I do feel lucky but I have friends with babies just slightly older who claim their baby went right through from around 8 weeks.

I'm also interested to know if you did anything different to achieve the all nighter or did it just happen?

Yup. My dd sleeps best from 11pm to 12 noon. She's a nightmare to get to sleep, well of course now she gets herself to sleep ....eventually

DS2 went from 8pm-5am from 3-4 months. But We're still in the 4 month regression at nearly 10 months.

I'll tell you when it happens. Dd is 19 months. She has slept through a handful of times in her life.

I feel both reassured and not reassured by this thread! DS is almost 1 and has never slept through. He woke hourly until 6 months, and has gradually got better, but despite being well established on solids, he still has an 8oz bedtime bottle and 2 night time bottles (sometimes a bf instead). So I'm up at least twice in the night. It feels like all the other babies his age sleep through, and I feel so judged when people ask me how he sleeps. 'He STILL doesn't sleep through? Well do you go into him when he cries? I'm not surprised then. He's spoilt!'

DS1 - 9 weeks
DS2 - 10 weeks
DS3 - 8 weeks


But I have been INORDINATELY lucky.
Just take each day as it comes and font compare with other people or you'll drive yourself loony!!! Every baby is different :)

My DS(18mo now) slept through from 8 weeks old, I've had only a handful of broken nights from him, due to teething or him being unsettled when we moved house.

His 3yo sister however.........still waiting for an unbroken night from her.
I think DS is trying to make up for it though, I really couldn't have handled two of them like DD.

Oh and one of dd2 or ds2 will STILL disturb me almost every night and they are (just) 6 and 3 1/2...

Dd1 - 12 weeks (on holiday in Majorca)
Ds1 - 8 weeks (on holiday in Majorca)

Ds1 - 6mths ish

Well, one of mine did sleep through from 4 months.

One of them did get 3's in their Y2 sats.

One of them did happily trot off to pre-school. (And they all had bladders/bowles of steel).

But I think there is an awful lot of stretching the truth out there when it comes to these things.

So to be completely truthful;

DS1 was one year, but he lapsed and gave me another year of unbroken nights, untill I told him enough was enough and did rapid return. It took six bloody weeks for him to get the message.
DS2 was five years + (although he never actually disturbed me, he either co-slept or crept into my bed)
DD four months, bless her.

Lynette, just be ayas your child didn't sleep through from early, doesn't mean that's the case for everyone.

As I said previously, DS slept through from 6 weeks. Bar teething, and a sleep regression at 4 months, he still does. Why would I lie about that?

They may not be lying. They may however get their comeuppance when their child reaches teenagerdom.

Speaking as the worried mum whose ds did indeed, hand on heart, sleep through from very early, but said child is now 12....

Lynette they are not lying. Both mine slept through from 12 weeks from 10 until 7.

Bedtime will always be an hour of delight for their parents. the most precious hour of the day. These very same DC will be perfectly potty trained shortly after their 2nd birthday, never fuss when left at pre-school and achieve straight 3's in their Y2 SATs.



The parents are lying.

Just like I lied to a nosy mum at baby clinic who inquired whether my 2 week old was sleeping through. The truth is, by the time he was five he had only slept through 3 times.

Dd1 - from 3 months maybe. She went 10-7 from 7 weeks which was fab.

Dd2 - about a year. And she didn't go longer than 4 hours until she was 7 mobths old. Arg!

DS is 21 months, at around 18 months started sleeping through occasionally. Now he sleeps through most nights, but has horrible blips a couple or so times a week. I have a suspicion that he is getting his 2 year molars early though, so that could be the reason. Before this, never...not once...it was completely the other way around with wake-ups several times a night. So glad those days are gone. Please universe don't let me have jixed it all now for posting this.

Both mine had bedtime routine 9bath, PJs, darkened room etc) and were usually settled quickly at about 7.00 pm (both crap day time sleepers so exhausted by then). Didn't stop them waking 3-4 times a night for feeds though.

They slept through 7.00 - 5.00 from 6 months DD1 and 8 month DD2. Both exactly two months after starting solids once the volume of food was enough to the them through the night. After a year or so the morning got later to about 6.30 - 7.00 which is more civilised.

OP I think your baby sounds great for that age - it is actually quite unusual for babies to sleep through as early as mine did - my Mum tells me I was a terrible baby and didn't sleep through until I was about 18 months!!!

DD slept through from 2 months old. This was 9pm to 8am, she would never go to sleep earlier and still doesn't. I know this is unusual and I don't think it was anything great I did as a first time Mum, it is just the type of baby she is, calm, chilled and dare I say.....a bit lazy. She is now 19 months and still a great sleeper but a very very late walker as she really can't be bothered even though nothing wrong with her physically (have started a thread on this topic). baby 2 due is a few weeks and I pray she is a good sleeper too....could I be as lucky 2nd time around?

Oh, and I never change a nappy overnight unless he's soaked or done a poo. Which has happened maybe 5 times in his whole life? He wears cloth and has never had nappy rash.
