My 7 monthold just started walking......Help!

My (Nearly) 7 month old is walking round the room holding on to the furniture and my mother is having kittens as she thinks it will make him bow legged! surely he wouldnt do it if he wasnt ready? He's never had a walker, started crawling at 5mnths, an rekon he'll be off to uni within the year at this rate!!
Is it ok???

lol, my mil used to spout the same rubbish! dd walked around the room at about 6 months, drove me nuts, as she was so tiny and I worried about her falling over. She didn't walk alone until 11 months tho. start looking for the uni places

Of course it's OK! All just-walkers have slightly bowed legs - seems to disappeat about 2, i think. Don't worry - be proud! Do make sure your house is safe for a walking babe, though - my ds3 walked at 9 months and had absolutely no sense of danger for a good while.

dd2 was walking unsupported at 7 months. (Never crawled, did a sort of commando wriggle to get around and was up as soon as she could.) She is four next month and does not have bow legs!
I echo what jb says tho - it's amazing how much they can reach when they are upright and (not surprisingly) they don't do as they are told.

Its funny what parents say. DD1 was 11 months when she was walking unaided and she was pigeon toed for ages, my father constantly got at me to take her to the docs. I lied of course and told him I had and that it would just go, which it did. DD2 has been walking unaided since she turned 9 months old and bow legs haven't appeared yet!!!

Sorry, i didn't mean to enter all those, my laptops having a dicky fit!!!

all babies have slightly bowed legs, but actually in early walkers it can get worse before it gets better. They all grow out of it, however, and often become knock-kneed before they straighten out completely (overcompensation).

chapsmum it's fine, please don't worry. DS2 started cruising like this at 6-7 mo, (had crawled at 5mo) and walked unaided at 9mo and 1 week. Now at 2.9 he's really keen on climbing, running, anything physical. Speech was slower than his less mobile peers, interestingly.

Thats interesting Clary - my DS is very "physical" but doesn't say very much whereas my DD was very good with talking, but slower than DS at walking etc.

wow chapsmum! Ds is six months, will stand up if you put him leaning against something, but hasn't the balance to do it unaided (thank goodness ). It certainly won't make him bow-legged at all, he is obviously just very strong!

another one with an early walker! no bow legs here either.
ds was a very kicky baby, even before he was born. when i had him 3 diff m/w's commented that they'd never seen a newborn that kicked so much!
i think that he must've built up the strength in his legs to walk early with all his kicking! lol

Aren't mothers no it alls! My mil on her first visit to her grandson when he was days, said as I reached into the moses basket to pick him up to feed, "Don't keep picking it up, you'll bruise its bones!" Needless to say I don't listen to much she has to say!

Oh what fun!! Is he Afro Caribbean by any chance? I was astounded when my paed told me it's not unusual for AC kids to be walking (not cruising) at 6 months

My MIL says that too about ds getting bandy legs - he loves me to stand him up, even though he's no where near getting there himself. Of course, I take no notice

Thanks everyone, feel much better, although today has been spent following him round the living room catching him. Nappy changes are now done standing up, cot is now a climbing frame and my back is kiling me...
Was so cute though I just gave him dinner there and he fell asleep into his yogurt he was so knackered bless!!!!!

Just came back to this thread and found it very interesting - my early walking dd2 is also a late developer as far as speech is concerned. Love it when they fall asleep in their dinners, chapsmum! Such a good photo opportunity
