How old was your baby when you ditched the monitor?

DD is 12 months. Her room backs on to ours and the wall is quite thin so we hear her through the wall. I still find having the monitor on quite reassuring - just wondered when people ditch the monitor?

I never had one, just always slept with doors wide open.

Ditched mine at about six weeks as the constant burping, snoring and farting was driving me nuts.

I sleep with earplugs and am still awake and out of bed within a nanosecond of him stirring. Must be something installed in a mum's hearing..

I only ever used the monitor when DC were napping in the day and I was downstairs out of earshot. At night, the monitor gets switched off......

I eventually stopped using the monitor in the day when we transferred them to a bed and they could climb out and down themselves.

kept it on for about 12 months with dd1, and about 12 days with dd2!

ds1 - 18 months or so
ds2 - 3 months or so
dd - couldn't find a vital bit and didn't bother replacing it so never.

Never used it - flat is all on one floor!

Never had one.

Still use it, DD is 17mo and DS is 4.2, Have it on the landing in the evening between the rooms and move it inside DD's door when we go to bed.

Am desperate to get rid of it but can't seem to give it up, it is always within reach and I hold it to my ear several times an evening to 'listen'. Ditch it before it becomes an addiction like mine

DD will be 2 in January; we stopped using it about 6 months ago, and have been considerably less stressed about her sleep ever since :o

get rid, you won't regret it

DS is nearly 15 months, still got it. He sleeps on a different floor so wouldn't hear him (yep he still wakes up!) we turn it down to the lowest volume so we only hear him when he's properly woken as opposed to half awake murmurings.

When he was in the room across the hallway from us, we could get away with not having it on so probably would not use it at night.

We had one of those sensor mat thingys for PFB DS which I got rid of when it broke when he was 5

If we were to keep DD's door open, we'd go in each time to find her curled up with the cat...

Never used one but live in a v small house.

DD is 10 MO and still wakes so we have kept it longer than intended.
Had to turn the volume down on it last week though. She was laying on her back, hands behind her head snoring like a bear!

Am thinking of ditching it when she reaches a year old.

I couldn't get mine to work, so never used it.
Despite our house being over 3 levels and me also being almost deaf in one ear, I could hear her surprisingly easily and usually before anyone else. Mums radar.

DD was about 3 and tbh only stopped using it because it broke otherwise I would probably still be using it now and she is 4.6. I found it useful to use during the day if DD was in a different room to me although obviously I did not leave her for about more than 5-10 minutes and this was once she was a bit older between 2.5-3 years.

Don't use one either. I too sleep with earplugs and can hear 14 week DD no problem. It's difficult to describe but as soon as she makes a squeak, I get this weird sensation through my body. Like fear of
something lol!

Glad I didn't waste money on one. I'm such a light sleeper I need to sleep well to be a happier mummy. Farts, burps, squeaks and snoring would make me go demented!

Still using it 4 years later. But in my defense we have a 3 storey house and can't hear even the loudest howling when we're down stairs. Is a godsend on the days we manage to drag DD off to the bathroom before she pukes on the floor!

DD1 - when she was just 2 and DD2 was born so used it for DD2 instead;

DD2 - about 6 months

DS - never really used it except for naps when I was downstairs.

That said, our house is pretty small and I can easily hear any crying at night without the monitor. I still have a working monitor and might use it if one of them is ill or might put it on if we are staying with friends if our room is a little bit away from the children's, although the 5 yr old is pretty trustworthy to come and fetch me if there is a problem so not really necessary.

Never used it for DD. In our room to 6 months then she was in the loft room a flight up but with doors open we could hear her fine. Did get it out at my parents house which is huge.... When we moved house didn't get it out apart from when she was ill and I wanted to be sure, but now it doesn't come out at all (she's 2).

I am still using mine and DS is 15 months old .

It's even an Angelcare one and I quite like seeing the wee pendulum going back and forth if I wake up at night.

I have the sound down a lot lower than I did when he was smaller, but I giggle to myself loads in the morning if he wakes up and has a wee chat to himself/his teddy/who knows what!

I actually even used it when he was in our room for the first 6 months, I used the sensor mat with the sound down. I figured I'd be the sort of worrier awake all night checking him, so it probably helped me sleep a wee bit easier!

I was wondering this last night.
DS has just turned 3 and it's still set up!!!
we are on a different floor and he has only just recently started sleeping properly, so that's my excuse.

bought one and then sold it brand new in box! He just stayed with us, we liked it that way
