Clara, Greta, Lola or Rosie?

Hello!

I'm due in 4 weeks and whilst don't know if it's a boy or girl but we are nearly there with a boys name (nearly!)

So, I'd really appreciate opinions/first impressions on these girls names as we are struggling to decide.

We really want a name that will 'age' well if you know what I mean, i.e. not just a little girls name. Something classic and pretty and not hugely popular.

Middle name will be Jean.

Many thanks!

I love Clara.

Bessie123 · 30/06/2010 21:00

I like all those names, although I like lola least. Clara Jean sounds v pretty.

GladioliBuckets · 30/06/2010 21:01

Clara or Greta. Clara is more wholesome, Greta has more mystique imo - depends which way you want to go.

I don't think of Lola as a 'classic' though (unless you're talking about the Kinks song.)

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/06/2010 21:02

Clara and Greta are both really lovely

tummytickler · 30/06/2010 21:05

Clara and Greta are lovely.

Rosie is very popular, so if you don't want popular I would avoid that.

Lola is very popular and trendy - will date quickly. Really dislike lola (although I love the Kinks song )

Clara Jean or Lola Jean sound nicest as combos.

snowmummy · 30/06/2010 21:06

I like Clara.

TheFallenMadonna · 30/06/2010 21:07

Clara would be my favourite out of those. Lola least favourite.

Kathleen123 · 30/06/2010 21:08

Rosie

BosomsByTheSea · 30/06/2010 21:08

Rosie is gorgeous. Was bullied by a horrid Clara at school so don't like that one, Greta's really cute!

Firawla · 30/06/2010 21:13

I like them all except Greta is quite gruff/harsh sound
Rosie is a bit nicknamey so suits more for a young child but not sure about as a full name, so would go for Lola or Clara, both beautiful names

thecatatemygymsuit · 30/06/2010 21:19

Clara Jean is just lovely

BrigitteBardot · 30/06/2010 21:24

Clara is lovely.

MrsMalcolmTucker · 30/06/2010 21:27

Love Clare and Greta.

Lola's great but I think you have to be a certain type of person to carry off Lola when you're older than about 5.

Everyone I know has called their child Rosie. Everyone. Even the ones who had boys.

baskingseals · 30/06/2010 21:33

love Clara.
also love Marta.

Limpopo · 30/06/2010 21:39

Clara is my favourite girls name ever ever ever and it's what DD would be called if DH had agreed

castille · 30/06/2010 21:41

Clara

Was on our shortlist for DS if he'd been a girl, I love it.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/06/2010 21:47

Clara Jean is great - CJ (West Wing fan here)

Greta is nice too (have you got German connections?)

I like Rose, Rosie as nn

I dislike Lola

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/06/2010 21:48

Malcolm

proudfoot · 01/07/2010 02:46

Clara is a fab name, go for that one. The rest are fine too but Clara is really gorgeous.

strandedatsea · 01/07/2010 02:52

Wow I can't believe how many people like Clara as that is my name and in my lifetime I have met hardly any others.

watch the pronounciation though - mine is said like Clare -a, I suspect most people are talking about the Clara that rhymes with Tara.

And I didn't bully anyone at school so it can't have been me!

Btw I like Greta.

randomimposter · 01/07/2010 07:24

Clara my fave of your names.
Prefer Rosa to Rosie.

Agree with the Lola name needing to be a certain type of young lady! Greta always sounds a bit hard to me but I like it too.

So all nice!

PS never heard Clara pn anything other than rhyming with Tara... you learn something every day!

Hedwig3 · 01/07/2010 10:56

Clara by a mile.

PollyTechnique · 01/07/2010 11:20

Clara is gorgeous and classy.

Rosie is over popular and a bit girly. Lola sounds faddy and Greta sounds very Germanic.

wideratthehips · 01/07/2010 11:27

i always thought with my children how does the name sound

a. when you screech it across a playground

b. how it might sound when they are introduced as the new prime minister

i do think lola is a faddy name and i really like clara

Pasiphae · 01/07/2010 11:35

I love Greta.
