Montgomery has some significance for us, but I don't think would use it, would have to be Monty.

Opinions?

puts hands together

"excellent"

i don't like it personally. too elderly gentleman who likes to hunt. or a dogs name. or an old nuclear power plant tycoon

Hedwig3 · 08/06/2010 12:40

I like it either way.

lidofabiro · 08/06/2010 12:42

I'm not too keen on it personally but if you like it and it has significance it sounds like it could be a a good choice

Monty Python
Monty Don

are the two Montys I can think of.

LetThereBeRock · 08/06/2010 12:46

I hate it. I think it's incredibly wet.Perhaps as a middle name but I wouldn't use it as a first.

Magicmayhem · 08/06/2010 12:47

love it...

grumpypants · 08/06/2010 12:48

my ds is monty. it's v cute, and suits him. and is v hard Rock

LetThereBeRock · 08/06/2010 13:11

A 'hard' Monty? I can't imagine such a thing.

TheBride · 08/06/2010 13:22

What about Field Marshal Montgomery- hero of the African campaign of WW2? He was probably quite hard.

I know that was his surname, not his first name, which was Bernard, but still.

mrsruffallo · 08/06/2010 13:27

Lovely name

grumpypants · 08/06/2010 13:29

Rock it is a cunning disguise

hatebeak · 08/06/2010 13:29

Uncle Monty from Withnail and I.

Amarilis · 08/06/2010 15:19

Bloody Love it - it's on my shortlist, but Montague, not Montgomery.

lidofabiro · 08/06/2010 15:23

Of the "Mont" names I quite like Montrel.

Freezingmyarseoff · 08/06/2010 15:24

I think it's a lovely name.

There's a Montgomery at DD's CM and all the mindees call him Gommie as they can't pronounce Montgomery just to warn you.

iloveasylumseekers · 08/06/2010 15:35

It's definitely more "out there" if that's important to you. I know two under 3s. It may date.

londonmackem · 08/06/2010 15:39

We liked it and husband loved but but a few people said it was only suitable if we could afford a private school education or guarantee he would be a spin bowler - we had a DD!

DomesticG0ddess · 08/06/2010 18:00

That's interesting asylum as have never heard of any others. I guess it could sound a bit posh london, but we're not like that so I don't think that would matter.

Euew, hatebeak, Uncle Monty, that made me laugh! Freezing, that also made me laugh, but I think kids would be able to pronounce Monty?

Not sure if I have gone off it or not.

It's maybe just a freak cluster. I'm in wannabe posh home counties.

PixieCake · 08/06/2010 18:44

Love it.
Like the full version.

meadowlarks · 08/06/2010 18:44

Monty is fine on its own, IMO. Montgomery just reminds me of Mr Burns.

pogleswife · 08/06/2010 19:39

Monty Roberts ( the horse whisperer) is one of my all time heroes. so love the name coz of that. However, I now have the image of Withnail in my head

schoolpanic · 08/06/2010 19:42

just waved Monty goodbye. he's a lovely lovely boy and a great name. go for it!

TheBride · 09/06/2010 02:14

Londonmackem- love it! That's exactly what our friends said to us

"Great name, but he'd get beaten up at state school."

It is a bit posh and serious but I think it has gravitas, and that's a good thing. My main concern with picking a name for DS is that he will be an adult a lot longer than he'll be a child so I'd rather pick a name that sounded odd on a baby but good on a man than vice vera

indie37 · 09/06/2010 10:34

I know a Monty, he's lovely, v. serious looking baby. It's a great name.

gwendolenlongstocking · 09/06/2010 14:39

"puts hands together

"excellent""

Yes, exactly my impression! There seems to be a bit of a Monty trend on mn; I'm always amazed at how often it comes up on the name section but not yet in real life... still, given time, perhaps it's going to be the new Alfie (make of that what you will). I think it's awful, sorry. Montgomery is just ridiculously ott and Monty as a full name is silly sounding without anything dignified to fall back on.
