Help me name my twins!

Yummaymummay · 31/05/2010 12:58

First post so please bear with me....!

I am 8 months pregnant with twins but naming them is turning into a slight fiasco due to DH's various 'familial needs' so thought I would turn to here for advice!
Here is my slightly too long shortlist:

Augusta - possible nn Goosy
Allegra
Aphra
Carolina
Cordelia - nn. Coco
Chloris
Christabel- nn. Coco
Clover
Delphi - with poss. full name Delphinia
Florence
Harryo
Hebe
Hero
India
Lettice - nn. Letty
Pandora
Perdita (pur- dita)
Posy
Tansy
Violet
Willow

Arthur
Felix
Finn
George
Harry
Hector
Humphrey
Monty
Milo
Rupert
Sebastian
William- nn. Billy

Would it be possible to give your top 5 girls names, top 5 boys names and then top 5 girl/ boy combinations as we are leaving the sexes as a suprise, also any suggestions especially for boys would be greatly apreciated!
Thankyou so much for your help

Yummaymummay · 31/05/2010 16:55

Yes lulu- I think we will try and avoid alliterative names or everything will just get increadibly confusing.
Also as dh said, I would be nice for them to have different initials especially If we have two of the same sex as then they will be even more so seen as twins then if they are boy/girl if you get me.

Multimummy · 31/05/2010 17:01

Edward and Dolores. (If they're boy girl)
That's teddy and dolly for short.

LuluF · 31/05/2010 17:09

Yes - I think it will make them seem more individual and the intials/post thing could be a nightmare.

GetThePartyStarted · 31/05/2010 17:16

IMHO Hebe is just cruel, I have a relation called Hebe and she spends her life telling people "Hebe, not Phoebe, H E B E", and being called Heeb.

Psammead · 31/05/2010 20:26

Congratulations in advance! Such an interesting list. Here are my picks, (with an American "ear" fyi)...

GIRLS

  1. Allegra
  2. Cordelia/Coco
  3. Delphi (this is pronounced Delf-eye, right?? or is it Del-fee?)
  4. Violet
  5. Willow
(If both girls, I like Coco and Allegra together. They have nice contrast. IMO twins shouldn?t be rhyming or sound-alike names, like "Coco and Willow".)

BOYS

  1. Felix
  2. Finn
  3. George
  4. Monty
  5. Milo
(If both boys, Milo and Finn. Or George and Finn.)

COMBINATIONS

  1. Allegra and Finn
  2. Coco and Felix
  3. Violet and Finn
  4. Willow and George
  5. Allegra and Milo
CheerfulYank · 01/06/2010 18:23

I like most of your names and I know an absolutely adorable little Clover. So that's a good one! I also like Finn, Milo and Delphi.

Congrats! Am that you're having twins.

Augusta - possible nn Goosy -- no to both name and nn
Allegra -- car and medicine
Aphra -- lovely
Carolina -- lovely
Cordelia - nn. Coco -- lovely and sweet nn
Chloris -- too like chlorine, so no
Christabel- nn. Coco -- lovely
Clover -- farm name, reminds me of cows
Delphi/Delphinia -- I like Delphine but not Delphinia or Delphi. I also like Adele or Adela
Florence -- getting very popular
Harryo -- a typo? If not, then like
Hebe -- she will be called 'heebie jeebie'
Hero -- like
India -- dislike
Lettice - nn. Letty -- much prefer Letitia, like Letty
Pandora -- bad mythical associations
Perdita -- near-tragic associations
Posy -- nice, sweet
Tansy -- nice
Violet too close to violent, and also 'shrinking violet' prefer Ianthe and Jolanta
Willow -- like

Arthur -- very popular
Felix -- nice
Finn -- very nice
George -- very nice
Harry -- only as nn for Henry
Hector -- love
Humphrey -- I think of turtles when I hear this name
Monty -- Full Monty
Milo -- like
Rupert -- makes me think of bears in clothes
Sebastian -- dislike; too dermatological
William- nn. Billy -- like

Oh wow thankyou so much everyone for all the opinions!
mathanxiety I love some of your suggestions especially Posy/Harryo and Coco/Harry and highlystrung I love the combo hebe/ milo

Dh is quite concerned about the butter connotations regarding 'Clover' but is this any more so than 'Flora'?

Also I suprised so many of you think Harryo is a made up name. It was fairly common in the victorian era as. A female equivilant of Harry and Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire had a daughter of the same name.

Also sorry for the appalling spelling, I have been doing this from my phone

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 02/06/2010 00:04

That's where I came across Harryo -- she was the smart one who spoke several languages.

scurryfunge · 02/06/2010 00:07

I love Hebe and Hector as a combination

gagamama · 02/06/2010 16:02

You've got Augusta as a girls name, but how about Augustus for a boy? I love Florence and Augustus.

Also like Tansy and Rupert or Tansy and Sebastian. I know a lovely grown-up Tansy, a really under-used and pretty name.
