Do you think Rory is a nice name?

Hi all, am 6 months PG and struggling with boys' names. DS is Samuel and we don't want anything too far out. Anyone have any thoughts about Rory?

Yes - Roary the racing car springs to mind here, and neither of our ds's can say it correctly (they're 4 and 2) so it's woarwy in this house! Don't think they're alone in having trouble saying the R's either as several of their friends are the same.

Rory is a great, underused name.

I love Rory and would totally use it but for the fact we already have a Ralf! Too many rrrrrs for one family.

Yes, except about 50% of the under 2 boys around here seem to be called Rory. I even know a Roary!

Lovely, don't know any little Rorys. Gaelic spellings are nice as well but it's one of the few names that looks just as good Anglicised.

We were thinking of Ruaridh as well, but i'm put off as nae cunt can spell it. (possibly including me)

RUAIDHRÍ is the Gaelic spelling apparently, so I guess they're all bastardisations one way or an other.

JennyPiccolo no RUAIDHRI is not the (I presume you mean Scottish) Gaelic spelling, RUAIRIDH is the Gaelic spelling.

I looked it up on a gaelic website, but i asked my brother who speaks Gaelic today, and he said it's Ruaridh. I think the first I makes the DH redundant if you're spelling it Ruairidh, so then it would just be Ruairi like Mhairi is spelled.

I'm really not too sure, and that's what's putting me off the name.

The name has been ruined for me by too many 'difficult' children with that name passing through my life.

I think it's lovely!
