What do you think of Maddon as a boy's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Not much. Makey uppy, trying to be different.

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/05/2010 14:23

What, like the male version of Madonna?

sapell3 · 25/05/2010 14:30

Too much like madden, maddening and so on.

mathanxiety · 25/05/2010 15:58

You'd get all sorts of funny annoying remarks if he was colicky.

There's Maddox? Max?

helyg · 25/05/2010 16:00

I have never heard of Maddon. Mabon is a Welsh boys name, and I have heard of Madden as a surname, but never Maddon.

helyg · 25/05/2010 16:04

Although I have just looked my own name up on that, and it is unanimously loathed but I should be a hedge fund manager who wears Fat Face and shops at Farmers Markets

BleachedWhale · 25/05/2010 16:23

Well, you clearly love it as you have added it to the list and rated it highly.

But...no...it's simply dreadful.

nickytwotimes · 25/05/2010 16:23

Nope, no likey.

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 25/05/2010 16:24

Sorry but it's not very nice.

Sounds like mad'un

you can think of something better!

emmyloo2 · 25/05/2010 16:27

Sounds a bit like a made up name and a bit like Maddox.

Is it a real name?

sedgiebaby · 25/05/2010 18:16

lo at AtlantisLegoDuplicates comment.

I don't really like or dislike it, but yeah people are going to have fun with it

shushpenfold · 25/05/2010 18:17

Yak

MamaLazarou · 25/05/2010 18:21

I like it. Different but not weird.

LaRagazzaInglese · 25/05/2010 20:33

Madoc?
Maddox?

garlicoliveoil · 25/05/2010 21:35

mmm well.......

i love it, i named my son who has just turned 1 and have never heard a negative comment about it, everyone says "what a lovely name and ive not heared that before",

My other two boys are Declan and Finlay which are both irish names as is Maddon so to me it fits perfect

Bleached whale and shushpenfold simply dreadful and yak seems a bit harsh.

Really bad.

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 26/05/2010 07:30

I'm sorry if our comments offended. Usually people assume a name hasn't been used yet when someone asks opinions on it here.

Had people known you had used it they would have been far kinder.

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 26/05/2010 07:31

Then again I am glad you do like it

why did you ask, if you love it yourself - and everyone you know seems to - was there really any need?

Loads of people (esp on here!) hate my child's name but I love it - so I don't really care iyswim? It isn't about whether we like it or not.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 26/05/2010 07:33

I really don't understand why people add names to the Baby Name Finder and then come on here and say, what do you think of this name it's on the Finder.

What's the point? Are you using the fact that you've added it for backup? Why not just ask for the opinion without the whole adding-it-to-the-site bit?

I also don't understand why people would ask opinions on a name they've used and still love. What are you going to do with the opinions?

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 26/05/2010 07:37

I suppose perhaps OP was hoping for positive opinions so she could feel a bit boosted, but it all went a bit wrong - such a shame.

I can understand wanting people to say 'ooh that's really nice'

but there's no need, really, if you do really love the name - all I need is one or two other people to like mine, among the masses of dissenters, and I feel suitably rebellious and justified

Hope OP isn't feeling too bad. I think someone did agree with her.

garlicoliveoil · 26/05/2010 11:53

calm down tortoise shell, there isnt any point to me asking, does there have to be???? i was just curious thats all to what people thought,

im not going to change his name just because someone has said they dont like it

Atlantis- what is your child called? i know there is no need, like i said before i really really love the name but i was just pottering on here and added it and asked opinions!
i dont feel bad either

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 26/05/2010 11:56

No, I'm not asking why you asked for opinions. I'm asking why you added the name to the Baby Finder, then posted that it was on the Baby Finder like that gives it more credibility. I've seen a few people do that and it baffles me every time.

RunforFun · 26/05/2010 11:57

Reminds me of salt !

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 11:58

odd

AtlantisLegoDuplicates · 26/05/2010 12:21

I'd rather not say if that's alright. I'm glad you don't feel bad though.
