What do you think of Maddon as a boy's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

If you ask anonymous strangers their honest opinions on something, you are going to get a few responses which are 'a bit harsh.' Toughen up lady.

Well, I have seen a very extreme reaction against one of my DCs names on MN. Shrug - I like it, He likes it, I haven't ever asked f anyone's opinion because I don't care what others think!

If you give your child a name like Maddon (which is an Irish surname, it seems), then you have 3 choices: a)don't ask for opinions because you don't care - you like it whatever, b)Ask opinions in advance and modify your choice if they are negative and you care about that, c). Ask afterwards and expect not to be told the whole truth if people are less than enthusiastic, because people will be tactful.

All are OK, of course - but you mixed it up a bit by not saying whether you were thinking of it, or have actually used it. Not sure why you are drawing attention to it on the babyfinder.

It's not to my taste.

I am also assuming you were hoping everyone was going to say that they really liked it (being miffed at those who don't really does suggest this), which is not the nature of Mumsnet, to say the least. If you ask for opinions, you'll get honest, forthright opinions - especially in baby names! And especially as people will assume, by asking, that it's not a name you've actually decided on yet.

I also love the 'it's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder', instead of 'I added it to Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder'.

You're happy with it - that's all that matters.

I'm not mad on it.

Makes me think of a certain Essex salt too.

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 26/05/2010 21:48
