Do you? And if not what would you like to be called?

I hated mine as a child although I was the only one through all my school years so there was no confusing who was being yelled at!

Now I love my name. It is a normal, old name, but not one that is popular by any means. I think popularity has grown in recent years, but you still don't hear too many being called.

Also, there are many nicknames for my name, but no one has ever attempted to shorten it in my case apart from XP's!

peasandbeans · 11/05/2010 18:37

Yes, I love my name. When my parents chose it it was very unfashionable, and they had lots of comments saying that they had made a bad choice. Now it is becoming quite popular, which is not surprising because it is a beautiful name.

differentID · 11/05/2010 18:44

I'm a Maria. I thought it was ok when I was a child, hated it with a passion as a teenager due to all the teasing I had and as an adult have decided it's rather pretty after all!
I loathe and abhor my middle anme and I really don't know why my parents had to give me a poxy French middle name when the English version is more than acceptable.

yama · 11/05/2010 18:45

No, I've never really identified with my name.

I always wanted to be called Louise (which was what my Mum wanted to call me).

scottishmummy · 11/05/2010 19:02

aye of course.

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 19:04

Lucy is a ruby red (to me) but may be something quite different to other synaesthetes.

Horton · 11/05/2010 20:19

Oh, that's lovely, thank you SMTB. That's my favourite colour, actually.

KayHarker · 11/05/2010 20:20

I grew to hate my given name so much I changed it to my MN name.

helyg · 11/05/2010 20:23

I hated mine as a child, but as I've got older I've grown to like it.

It is Welsh though, and nobody outside Wales can spell/pronounce it properly!

larrysgal · 11/05/2010 20:25

Yes, I love it. There are no others on google, which I like rather.

ZZZenAgain · 11/05/2010 20:26

no

marriednotdead · 11/05/2010 20:34

I detest my name and always have, it is very old fashioned and anyone I've encountered with it is at least 40 years older than me. Mum didn't even use it- I've always been called by my middle name (a sensible Ann) so what she was thinking I don't know I've never been able to find a name I'd prefer to replace either otherwise I would have.

DastardlyandSmugly · 11/05/2010 20:37

Bizarrely I like the way ot looks written down but hate the way it sounds.

I always wanted to be called Meredith Goldsmith

DastardlyandSmugly · 11/05/2010 20:38

Ooooh differentid what was your teasing? I'm also a Maria.

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 20:52

lol at Meredith Goldsmith!

DastardlyandSmugly · 11/05/2010 21:03

I know it's shocking isn't it? There were some books about girls in US high schools I used to read and loved 'Merry' from those. I alsways thought Goldsmith sounded really glamorous!

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 21:05

I used to want to be "Jane Greenwood" - not nearly so glamorous.....

DastardlyandSmugly · 11/05/2010 21:08

Somuchtobits I think we've bonded over a shared love of Playmobil and shit names

I do need to ask why Jane Greenwood?

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 21:12

Lol, I just liked it - and it's green (my favourite colour)

Lovethesea · 11/05/2010 21:12

Yes, I love the meaning of my name and middle name - and their histories. There were a fair few of us first names in the mid 70's but my mn is unusual so I still felt special.

Horton · 11/05/2010 21:13

I wanted to be called Elise Mercy Parker and used to practise her handwriting obsessively. Children are mad.

SoMuchToBits · 11/05/2010 21:15

I love Elise Mercy Parker!

boodleboot · 11/05/2010 21:26

DastardlyandSmugly · 11/05/2010 21:30

Ooh Elise Mercy Parker is a psychic who lives in New Orleans surely?

MunchkinsMumof2 · 11/05/2010 21:35

I love my name and loved that my first, middle and surname all had the same amount of letters!
