Im expecting dc 1 and we don't know the gender. We have a shortlist for a boy; Sonnie, Freddie, Cassius.

We can't agree on a girls name though, I like flowery names like Daisy, Flora etc but dh came across the name Minnie and I think I like it apart from the minnie mouse thing.

Opinions please

Oh, and your boys names are lovely - except I would spell Sonnie as Sonny - the "changing a Y for an IE" thing is quite feminine IMO.

Oh, great, didn't realise it was an old thread. Waste of time that!

My 90 year old mum is called Minnie and has always hated it. She is always known as Barbara (her middle name)

Morva is a very nice M name :)

My daughter is now 15, her name is Minnie Molly and she's never been teased about her name. On the contrary people tend to love her name

It's similar to Fanny . - and both have fallen out of use as names and are used more for referring to vaginas. Minnie Mouse has been around a while - I'm surprised you see it as less old fashioned than mary! Will is a much more used name whereas Minnie would stand out and the only point of reference are mouse and fanny.

What about Mimi?

JumpingJackSprat · 12/01/2014 09:19

Ok so the minnie thing is covered.

What about Callie, connie, cassie, Mina, Emmie. Names like those in the op but a bit more unusual.
