Kermit for a boy?

copperjar · 02/05/2010 19:34

I am watching the muppets at the moment- it was my absolute favourite as a child- and it's got me thinking.

I am nine weeks pregnant at the moment.

What do you think of Kermit for a boy? I doubt it's a top 100 name, and I do want something a little unusual. Good idea, or not?

kermit obviously has a history before the frog, i think it's supercool

MarineIguana · 02/05/2010 21:24

Just googled and there are also several sporting Kermits - a boxer, a basketball player and a soccer player.

MissPiggy was taken

You cannot call your DS Kermit. Please say you are joking. It's the name of a frog in a kids' programme! It is NOT OK!

mathanxiety · 03/05/2010 00:15

Here's a Kermit Roosevelt, son of Theodore Roosevelt -- I have a feeling there's more of a Dutch than a Gaelic flavour to the name.

He seems to have come to an unhappy end, but had an interesting life.

NathanBarley · 03/05/2010 00:38

What is it that you like about it op?

SirBoobAlot · 03/05/2010 07:47

It was at its most popular in 1910. There's a reason that is so long ago.

Please don't.

MmeLindt · 03/05/2010 07:56

It's a no from me, sorry.

Did you notice that Kermit Roosevelt's son was called Kermit Roosevelt Jnr, and his son is Kermit Roosevelt Jnr II, a Washington DC attorney. And look, he called his son Kermit Roosevelt III

thumbwitch · 03/05/2010 08:00

I really wouldn't unless you are American and living in America.

In the UK, it will be synonymous with The Frog and that's just cruel.

You could always go for Scooter though...

copperjar · 03/05/2010 12:13

I think what I like about it is the frog association though. Happy memories for me- and I think he had a lot of integrity and a positive attitude. As a frog, he was a better man than many men are.

I assume you are joking... We nicknamed DS1 Kermit when I was expecting and DH joked that we should name our children after the muppets. But it was only ever a joke...

If you dare, go for it but I think you'll get a lot of

"As a frog, he was a better man than many men are."

QOTW copperjar! And so true...

flopsy1974 · 03/05/2010 21:24

Don't do it.

OrganicHairbrush · 04/05/2010 12:08

Have just spilt coffee all over my keyboard sniggering. Your embryo owes me a new keyboard...

glastocat · 04/05/2010 12:19

You have got to be kidding.

mitfordsisters · 04/05/2010 14:29

You could if you go and live in America. I worked for an American company and the finance guy was a lantern-jawed hunk called Kermit. I love it, but it might be a bridge too far??? What about Rudy, Herby or Eugene?

Patsy99 · 04/05/2010 14:42

Do it! You'll bring a lot of laughs to a lot of people. Just maybe not your ds.

I always loved Kermeee too.

DomesticG0ddess · 04/05/2010 18:15

Oh, this thread has cheered me up! What about Beaker??

copperjar · 15/06/2010 22:39

UPDATE

DH has agreed!!

If it's a boy, it will definitely be Kermit. Yaaaaaaaay!

It has taken me a while to convince him, but made him watch The Muppets Take Manhattan, and he has come round! Happy happy

Now I need a girl's name. But I have a feeling it will be a boy.

We've been trawling through the really old babynames books OH's mum keeps giving us.

So far it's a close call between Kermit, Gaylord and Lancelot. Perhaps it'll get all three since it would be a shame to let such fine names go to waste.

GladioliBuckets · 16/06/2010 10:43

No. Just no.

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 16/06/2010 10:50

Camilla (the chicken) or groovy Janice from the band?

seenyertoeslately · 16/06/2010 11:25

Here in Hong Kong I know 2 Kermits. Not as popular as Garfield though. Bison is still my favorite.
