Kermit for a boy?

copperjar · 02/05/2010 19:34

I am watching the muppets at the moment- it was my absolute favourite as a child- and it's got me thinking.

I am nine weeks pregnant at the moment.

What do you think of Kermit for a boy? I doubt it's a top 100 name, and I do want something a little unusual. Good idea, or not?

Bad idea. A very bad idea. It's awful. I do hope you're winding us up.

Kermit's grown on me actually (now wants to change ds's name by deed poll)

minko · 02/05/2010 20:01

He'd need a pretty thick skin with all the frog jokes... as a name it's no worse than the kid in DS's nursery called Hubert really though!

catinthehat2 · 02/05/2010 20:02

He has a mighty fine collection of planes, and the museum is beautifully kept. Quite an admirable guy.

copperjar · 02/05/2010 20:05

I've asked dh what he thinks, and he says that if I still love it by the time the baby's due then we can use it. But he doesn't want us to tell his parents yet.

Or how about Cookie Monster, Gonzo, Animal, Beaker? This has got to be a joke.

catinthehat2 · 02/05/2010 20:07

Gonzo is good too.

copperjar · 02/05/2010 20:07

I'm not joking! It's a real name fgs! Somebody must use it.

I do like Gonzo, but I don't love the character so much. Kermit had a real dignity, I think.

It's not all that unpopular in the US for men, possibly middle aged men, but they were babies once...

keepitsweet · 02/05/2010 20:12

Just did a google search on it and found this

"The boy's name Kermit \k(e)-r

mit,

ker-

mit\ is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "without envy". Variant of Dermot, made famous by the popular green Muppet Kermit the Frog.

Similar baby names are Hermite and Karmi.

Kermit is a very common first name for men (#588 out of 1220) but an uncommon last name for both men and women. (1990 U.S. Census)"

CloudBustingForFelix · 02/05/2010 20:14

Aaw how about Rowlf? He's my favourite

seashore · 02/05/2010 20:14

If this is real then I have to say your son will never forgive you for it. Don't do it, life is hard enough. There are plenty of names to pick from, there is no reason to land a child with the frog's name.

southeastastra · 02/05/2010 20:17

oh fantastic go for it! what a great homage to the frog, lesser spotted these days alas

Rockbird · 02/05/2010 20:18

Yeah why not. It's no worse than half the suggestions I've seen on here over the last couple of days...

AbFabT · 02/05/2010 20:22

I rather like it. Much better than a lot I've seen on here.

LetThereBeRock · 02/05/2010 20:26

Someone used Moon Unit too but it doesn't mean it was a good idea to do so.

Rubena · 02/05/2010 20:30

That's just cruel. Please be just joking?

southeastastra · 02/05/2010 21:09

i found kermit weeks an aviation expert, you could say you named your kermit after him, aw please do it!

wish i had though of it first!

DaydreamDolly · 02/05/2010 21:13

Oh dear god.

hocuspontas · 02/05/2010 21:16

God no. Are you mad??

hunkermunker · 02/05/2010 21:17

Can you change your name to Miss Piggy until your baby's born, then, if you still think it's a good idea, do it. But you must walk the muppet-name walk before you make your son do it.

MarineIguana · 02/05/2010 21:19

I laughed at first but looking at Kermit Weeks, somehow he gives it gravitas (maybe it's just because it turns out there are humans called Kermit...)

If it wasn't for the associations it wouldn't sound silly at all - it's actually quite noble-sounding.
