Florence - am put off by Flo

Julia - Close relative called Julie

Sophia - Close relative called Sophie

Poppy - don't think it suits an adult

Rosa - Blends into surname, sounds like Rosalie

Already have an Eva.

Would love suggestions as I cannot find one girls name I love that I can use

Dorothy nn Dottie

TrillianAstra · 23/04/2010 11:33

Would it be Soph-ee-a or Soph-eye-a? Second not much like Sophie at all (always Soph-ee).

diddl · 23/04/2010 11:35

Flora?
Love Ella-too close to Eva?
Juliet?

bibbitybobbityhat · 23/04/2010 11:36

I think you should have a one syllable or 3+ syllable name to make a contrast with Eva.

bibbitybobbityhat · 23/04/2010 11:37

But not Grace or Isobel/Isabella.

bibbitybobbityhat · 23/04/2010 11:39

Really like Juliet, do you think it's too close to Julie though?

choosyfloosy · 23/04/2010 11:47

Juliet is perfect.

jeananddolly · 23/04/2010 11:59

In my fantasy I have 4 daughters called Sophia, Penelope, Antonia and Elodie. Last 3 any good?

What about the other two Golden Girls names as you have Rose and Sophia already? Dorothy and Blanche or the actresses? Beatrice, Estelle, Betty, Rue (maybe not Rue)

Try searching cool French actresses as I sense a theme there as well... what about Catherine, Brigitte, Melanie, Anouk, Jeanne, Ludivine, Simone...

diddl · 23/04/2010 12:02

No-not too close to Julie.

Heather? also love juilet

debaronz · 23/04/2010 15:27

Juliet would be a lovely choice. No, I don't think it is too similar to Julie.

Songbird · 23/04/2010 15:30

I know a Florence, shortened to Florrie which is sweet. But I love Flo I have to say!

Songbird · 23/04/2010 15:32

And why can't you just call her Hattie? You don't have to have a 'proper' name then shorten it. I had a very narrow escape - if I'd been a boy my parents would have called me Ben, lovely! Except I have a cousin called Benjamin so I would have been Benedict!?!?!?!? Yikes!

Petifilou · 23/04/2010 18:15

Florence can also be shortened to Floss or Flossie! Don't know if you like that any better?

I really like Florence but would wonder if people thought I'd just chosen it because of the popularity of Florence and the Machine! You know, in the way people name their babies e.g. Brooklyn or Kylie.
