Love Sid. Don't like quirky spellings myself.

What about Stan?

hopperdee · 21/04/2010 18:06

Syd Barrett - amazing (if a little unstable..) if you want him to have rock star potential anyway.

padraig · 21/04/2010 18:09

Personally dislike Syd.

And Stan is soooooooo bland.

LaRagazzaInglese · 21/04/2010 20:37

love Sidney, not sure about just Syd on its own

LetThereBeRock · 21/04/2010 20:42

I don't like it at all.

I thought 'Sydney' was the (usually American) girl's name - so 'Syd' might be seen as short for that ie female (which the exception of the aforementioned crazy diamond).

Prefer good old-fashioned Sid(ney) for a boy. And indeed Stan(ley).

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 22/04/2010 08:48

Sidney fine. Syd looks like a nickname for a girl.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 22/04/2010 08:49

Ditto - thought Syd was short for Sydney? I'd go with the masculine Sid.

My son who was born sleeping is Jacob Sidney, in his memory our rainbow baby is Sydney Charlotte Jo-Anne but always just Syd I love it

but then I would

sassysass · 22/04/2010 17:54

I don't like it. Sidney is not bad but still I'm not keen.

Greensleeves · 22/04/2010 17:56

I prefer Sid, as nn for Sidney

but there's nothing wrong with Syd, it's sweet

and you have to name your child something that makes YOU smile, even if MN doesn't like it

Egwene · 22/04/2010 20:07

It looks like a girls name.

jumblequeen · 25/04/2010 10:47

This is what we're naming our son!

(And yes, it's after Syd Barrett...)

Rockbird · 25/04/2010 11:25

Prefer Sid but it's not a name I'd choose at all. Now Stanley on the other hand is great

Hamkin · 25/04/2010 11:41

Love it. I used to have a dearly loved ferret called Sydney. (Hope that doesn't put you off!)

Suzy1975 · 17/05/2010 11:42

Syd Barrett - love it!

Hedwig3 · 17/05/2010 12:57

I like Sid spelt this way.

Also I think this spelling leaves no doubt about how it should be pronounced.

cece · 17/05/2010 22:25

DS1 was going to be Sid till MIL got wind of it
