Naomi, Sarah or Ruth

I like biblical names but don't want to make my daughter hate her name. What do you think of these? Which do you prefer? What do the names make you think of? Do you know any children with these names - what are they like?

Any opinions really...be honest!

Can't stand Ruth - sorry, but it sounds a bit bland.

Sarah is ok as not so popular now, but when I was growing up (born in 74) I was one of many.

I love Naomi, but pronounced naya-me (sounds blended together) not ni-oh-me or na-oh-mi with the emphasis on the oh bit.

  1. Naomi - reminds me of someone beautiful
  2. Ruth - my grandmothers name and sounds "sensible"
  3. Sarah - ok but too common

All lovely names. I like Ruth best, despite knowing lovely Naomis and Sarahs, Ruth has a feistiness to it that the others lack!

i love the name naomi, but you may find it is often mispelt (maybe that is just my friends and relatives) and that some people may insist on pronouncing it nigh omi, even people who see the child every day. They just can't seem to hear the difference (maybe that is just my mil and DB).
it's the best name on your list though!
Sarah is nice but there are so many sarah's of my generation i see it as a bit common.

Naomi is nice. We went with Cherith for a slightly different OT name.

Sarah
what about angelica
or call her nomad that is a great name

weegiemum · 20/04/2010 08:44

I like Naomi and also the spanish version Nohemi (no-he-mee).

Like Sarah.

Every Ruth I have known was a vicars daughter!

Shame that you couldn't agree on Rachel or Rebecca. Rachel is a FANTASTIC name (dd2!). I prefer Rebekah - would spelling make a difference?

OT names - well I think most are good as long as you steer clear of Jezebel!

I am slightly biased in favour of Ruth but I love Naomi and Sarah too. There are lots of Sarahs in my DCs' classes, but Naomi is a name I rarely hear. I think it falls into the same category as Zoe -- beautiful, classic, classless, Biblical. Rachel is another one I love.

I'm a Sarah... I always hated it; felt it was really boring. There were three of us at school and we all had to be 'Sarah W', 'Sarah P' and 'Sarah T'... Very annoying. But I think its less common nowadays.

I'm considering Ruth for my LO due in a few weeks time though - that gets my vote!

How about Georgia? (My sisters name!)

AdasMum · 21/04/2010 15:41

I like Ruth. The time is right for a Ruth revival!

bandgeek · 21/04/2010 17:05

I know she a Naomi who is in her early 20's and she loves her name. She tends to get called iMoan as a nickname though (she lives up to it )
It's a very pretty name. I also like like, but not so keen on Ruth, sorry.

bandgeek · 21/04/2010 17:09

*like Sarah!
