What do you think? I am welsh, DH is not, not living in Wales at the moment.

We have an Arianwen Beatrix. Named Pixie for short!

Love "empress of the pixies". Sounds very cool!

My username is from the Snow Spider - absolutely adore that book, and the name! Go for it!

spiderlight · 13/08/2018 16:06

Oops, just seen the age of the OP and realised she'll be about eight by now! Blush

I know this is an old thread but it's an unusual name. I think I read this thread 5 years ago. I called my daughter Arianwyn just to be even more unique. So much so I even bought the .com. I have no regrets. I like explaining the name to people and watching them attempt to say it. I can't understand why people struggle as it is pronounced how it is spelt.

We get lots of comments about how beautiful it is.

Another benefit is that it Is versatile. It can be shortened to Ari, Aria, Arian, An, Winnie, Anwyn Ria, Rian. We usually use Ari as it is a nice causal contrast to Arianwyn.

Tillygetsit · 06/09/2019 23:57

Love love love. Despite having Welsh heritage both sides of the family DH said no twice!

Astronica · 07/09/2019 06:29

Absolutely gorgeous, and I don't see a problem with it being used anywhere.

Ellmau · 07/09/2019 07:40

I think it’s gorgeous.

If you love the name then go for it but Ann is a bit bland as a shortening. I would go for Ari or Ani.

user1493494961 · 07/09/2019 12:31

Just noticed this is a zombie thread (very much so!)

MikeUniformMike · 07/09/2019 14:50

lljkk and bronze
It is pronounced Arr-yanwen not Arry-anwen. 3 syllables not 4.

kavlarr · 17/11/2020 21:12

bringing this thread back to life once more! Arianwen is in our top two names atm, but I've now got to go and track down the Snow Spider as never read it before and that could swing things!

Nell96 · 17/11/2020 21:19

Love love love it! Sadly DH doesn't. Might get away with it for a middle name maybe. If you do use it, don't shorten it - it's beautiful as it is.

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2020 21:50

@lljkk, it is Arr-YAN-wen, arr like in carry. 3 syllables. Arry-anwen isn't right.

InkyDinky10 · 08/01/2021 20:03

Couldn’t resist this old thread! I named my daughter Arianwen .. sixteen years ago and I still love the name and so does she! Her name is often shortened by all and sundry to Ari but we love that too.

Pbbananabagel · 08/01/2021 20:29

As a Welsh girl with a very welsh name I think Arianwen and Bronwen are beautiful and would be beautiful on a child of mixed ethnicity you go with your gut OP!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 08/01/2021 22:19

Now its been explained how to pronounce it, I think it's beautiful.

maddsclairelouise · 08/01/2021 23:58

I think Arianwen is absolutely gorgeous! Might even put it on my list hehe x

partyatthepalace · 09/01/2021 20:32

I quite like it... but if you move outside Wales I think it will be a bit of a challenge... Ari is a nice short form though.
