Scarlett Olympia - i'm bracing myself!!

Love both names but am aware that most people will consider Olympia to be far too 'up my own backside'. I was at school with an Olympia and she was fab and have loved the name ever since.

Scarlett, I think, is a beautiful name but doesn't really have any good shortened versions/nicknames but it's lovely as it is (I think).

I have a short surname.

Your thoughts would be really appreciated.

I like them both - but not together.

mamazon · 10/04/2010 18:11

Scarlett is very pretty but is becoming increasngly popular, if you don'tmind that then great.

Olymipa is trying a little too hard IMHO.

Both together brings images of a fat child huffing and puffing around a cross country circuit. don't know why though.

Miggsie · 10/04/2010 18:12

It sounds like a name for a racehorse

CelticStarlight · 10/04/2010 18:16

Nickname for Scarlett would be Letty/Lettie wouldn't it?

Both names are pretty but I'm not sure they go together to be honest.

Doozie · 10/04/2010 18:16

Middle names don't surface very often so I'd go for it if you liked it. Just make sure your surname doesn't start with D, P, B or W as that would make her SOD, SOB, SOP or SOW.

Psammead · 10/04/2010 18:33

Scarlett is OK, but Olympia reminds me of a mountain.

martini82 · 10/04/2010 18:38

i love it!

Alouiseg · 10/04/2010 18:40

Go for it! Sounds really powerful and strong.

notso · 10/04/2010 18:40

I love Scarlett.... not so much Olympia but thats what second names are for right?

allyfe · 10/04/2010 19:39

Not so keen on either alone. I do like Scarlett, but I can't help thinking it is a certain Ms Johansson who has made the name so popular. BUT saying that, I really like them both together. I think Scarlett as a first name and Olympia as a second name sounds great!

grumpypants · 10/04/2010 19:42

TBH you could have 'Olympic Games 2010, London' as the middle name, for the amount of use you get out of them. Scarlett's fine, just popular.

Nevergoogle · 10/04/2010 19:42

I like.

But what about Olymar as an alternative to Olympia. I met a girl from venezuela called Olymar once and i've always thought it was a nice name.

pitterpatterfeet · 10/04/2010 20:49

I think it's a great name - I say go for it!

mathanxiety · 11/04/2010 00:27

I think Scarlett is really trashy, whereas Olympia is lovely.

AllieW · 11/04/2010 17:55

I dislike them both, especially together. Combined they sound like a firm of solicitors. I have always disliked Scarlett. In the first place, it is a surname (the character in Gone With the Wind was actually called Kate or Katherine, I think, and Scarlett was her mother's maiden name.) In the second place, it reminds me of the phrase "scarlet woman" and I wouldn't want to saddle a child with such unsavoury connoitations. Sorry to be quite so blunt.

DebiNewberry · 11/04/2010 17:56

It's lovely.

I love it, personally.

LadyGagoogoo · 12/04/2010 16:46

'As you're asking, I think Scarlett is the 2010 version of Chardonnay.'
Oh god do you think so??

LadyGagoogoo · 12/04/2010 16:53

I posted that before finishing it such was my horror. What i wanted to say was that I am completely stuck re girls names but like both Scarlett and Olympia so was watching this avidly.... I did have concerens about Scarlett due to several WAGS but if zapostrophe is right then i will deffo not be using it. What other names do you like Norks as it seems we may have similar taste?

NorksLikeJordanBellyLikeNessa · 12/04/2010 19:49

Hey LadyG
How interesting that we are both thinking the same!! When are you due? I know that Scarlett is becoming more common (i.e. more people being called it) but I am unconvinced as yet that it is becoming more 'common' in the Chardonnay sense. Happy to be proved wrong.

Lots of differing opinion on this thread, all of it useful. SO hope most like it though!!

Other names that I was thinking about (most considered horrendous by my DH!) were Alice, Marina, Amber, Sophia and Francesca. How about you??

migola · 12/04/2010 19:52

I really like Scarlett but not keen on Olympia I'm afraid.
I like Alice, Amber, Sophia (but pref Sofia) and Francesca too

bigstripeytiger · 12/04/2010 19:54

I like Olympia, but I agree that Scarlett could look a little dated in a few years.
Marina is a lovely name.

LadyGagoogoo · 13/04/2010 10:01

Norks - Am due on 15 May, Sophia and Alice are both on my list too but they both seem a little bit ordinary compared to the other names i like - Ophelia, Allegra, Paloma, Olympia but on the other hand i don't want to try too hard and choose a name that is up my own backside as you say.
Tis a thin line between unusual and pretentions isn't it.
