I'm not actually pg or trying to name a baby so this thread is not important or urgent, I'm just curious.

What names can Annie be a nn for (except for Annabelle and Anastasia?) And are there any names where Anne/Annie is in the middle or at the end (except for Bethany)?

DD has a girl in her class called Stephanie, which is shortened to Annie.

DD is Áine which is the Irish form of Anne - her NN is Annie.

doozle · 04/04/2010 20:53

Annalise and Anya are lovely.

Magaly · 05/04/2010 09:33

Melanie or Bethany. I think Melanie is really pretty and although i normally am not too keen on spelling creativity, Melannie with the intention of using nn Annie is really nice.

I also like the suggestion of Stephanie. That's lovely.

My dd is Anya but she has always been Annie. DH and I were the same as you - we chose Annie because we loved it as a nickname, but we also wanted her to have a more adult name for when she was older. DH's nan was in a complete flap for weeks about it. Kept telling us that nicknames were vulgar and that if we wanted her to be called Annie we should have just named her Annie. This coming from the woman whose name is Eileen, but is always called Ellie.

chicaguapa and magaly Funnily enough, one of the reasons I am keen on the nn Annie for a DD is that my sister is called Stephanie and I thought it would be a nice kind of "she's named after you but not quite" gesture!

AnnieBeansMum, exactly- Annie is lovely isn't it, but I know what you mean about wanting a more adult name as well.

Greensleeves Tiffany was my childhood hero....I had a picture of her I used to carry around with me (I was only 6, in my defence).

V impressed by MNers encyclopaedic knowledge of names!
