These are 3 of our current favourites:

Esther (but not for its biblical connotations...will people immediately associate it with the bible? I like Ettie/Essie as nicknames)

Connie - Would probably give full name Constance but shorten it - also possibility of Nancy from Constance)

Eleanor - Like that it could be shortened to Nell or Ellie.

What connotations do you have with these names? (However, if really terrible, I probably don't want to know!!)

I like Esther

not keen on the other two

Connie -never liked it
Eleanor-too common

inveteratenamechanger · 03/04/2010 14:36

I love Esther.

lovesaruby · 03/04/2010 14:39

I like Connie - we've discussed using it for dd3 but our surname begins with a K and is very long so have decided its too much. Shame, I really like it!

helyg · 03/04/2010 14:49

I love Esther too, don't really feel anything either way about the other two.

Bucharest · 03/04/2010 14:52

I love love love Connie,
I slightly love Eleanor, (dd was going to have the Italian version for a while)
Esther is my least favourite, but it's still nice.

Great taste!

MrsCadwallader · 03/04/2010 14:53

Connie.... don't dislike it, but not sure I'd use it.

I love Eleanor, but there are SO many Ellies / Ellas around so I wouldn't use it, but if I did I would shorten it to Nell / Nora.

I really love Esther - very elegant and pretty - don't come across it often.

mathanxiety · 03/04/2010 17:27

I like Esther and the nns you have in mind.

I love Constance, Connie I've never liked, but Nancy is lovely.

Eleanor -- Nell is nice but there are thousands of Ellies.

juneybean · 03/04/2010 17:51

I love Esther and I don't link it to the bible.

mathanxiety · 03/04/2010 17:52

FWIW, Esther was on the top 20 girls' names list for New York City in 2008 or 09 (not exactly sure), so it's got a lot of appeal.

LaDiDaDi · 03/04/2010 17:54

All are lovely but I think I would go for Esther.

I know three baby Eleanors.

LadyCressida · 03/04/2010 17:56

All very nice! I also like Hester.

Not sure about Nancy though - Connie is a much nicer nn IMO.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2010 18:01

Constance first, then Esther, although I prefer Hester to Esther.

Not overly keen on Eleanor.

shockers · 03/04/2010 18:03

I too prefer Hester to Esther. There are two Connies at my school... both are really lovely girls, hence I love the name!

Didn't notice your nn's. I have an auntie Etty and a cousin called Essie ( which is apparently Swedish)

SalFresco · 03/04/2010 19:06

Love Constance, althought I wouldn't want COnnie for a nn.
ALso love Esther. Not keen on Eleanor, and there are enought Ellies about already!

OrmRenewed · 03/04/2010 19:08

I like all of them.

I have an Eleanor - I know only one other so not common round here. I do know a few Ellies but they aren't short for Eleanor.

madamefreckle · 03/04/2010 21:17

Thanks everyone. Keep them coming! I haven't heard of Hester before but for some reason it sounds a bit like a boy's name to me.

Esther is nice, I know a couple only.

Connie I like, prefer Constance, on my list but not DH's. I know 2 of these, both 7-8yo.

Eleanor is v v v popular in case you didn't know. If I include Ellie (often but not always short for Eleanor) I know oooh at least 10 off the top of my head. It wouldn't be my pick just for that reason, tho I love Eleanor as a name (Eleanor of Aquitaine etc)

They are all nice names but I think I prefer Constance. Like nn Nancy as well.

BitOfFun · 04/04/2010 01:09

Esther is beautiful.

henry37 · 04/04/2010 20:00

love Connie ,like Eleanor and realy dislike Esther sorry.

loobylu3 · 04/04/2010 20:10

I love Constance and Eleanor (but not the nn Ellie).

Esther is okay- it sounds a bit serious and harsh to me.

loobylu3 · 04/04/2010 20:10

foxyD · 04/04/2010 20:16

Esther nice but becoming quite popular. Not keen on Connie, I know one and she hates her name. Like Eleanor especially Nell.

janeite · 04/04/2010 20:23

Love Esther but think that Hester is even better.
Love Elinor (like this rather than the spelling in op).
Like Constance a lot but not Connie and I think Connie is inevitable really.
