What do you think of Shosanna as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

The name is Shoshana, not Shosanna. It's Hebrew, not Greek -- it features in the Song of Songs ("HaRo'eh baShoshanim")

So you pronounce it Shoshana?

It's a bit shush-y for me.

blinks · 29/03/2010 23:41

daft

LorraineSattell · 29/03/2010 23:42

i think jerry springer had a shoshana girlfriend, she's a designer now.

bibbitybobbityhat · 29/03/2010 23:45

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

Suzannah otoh is really lovely.

Bucharest · 30/03/2010 08:08

It's the swishyswoshyness I can't deal with.

I would dribble saliva down my chin every time I said it I'm afraid.

(Joshua has the same effect on me)

Suzannah is lovely.

PollyTechnique · 30/03/2010 08:35

Or Susannah

BlameItOnTheBogey · 30/03/2010 08:37

Sounds like Sean Connery saying SUsannah

CountessDracula · 30/03/2010 08:39

Sounds like a drunk person saying Susannah tbh

rubyslippers · 30/03/2010 08:49

it's a hebrew name
often used as a first name for (religious) jews
i personally like it

5DollarShake · 30/03/2010 09:39

Fine if you're Jewish and it has some meaning. A bit otherwise.

But then, I'm of the school of thought that thinks anyone giving their DC a very French or Italian or Russian name when they have no connection is a tad pretentious, so my views can probably be discounted.

poutine · 30/03/2010 09:54

LOVE it!!
as somone else said, it is the name of Jerry Seinfeld's ex

slhilly · 30/03/2010 10:19

Susannah is just the Anglicised version of the same name.

Shoshana's the heroine in Quentine Tarrantino's Inglourious Basterds ....

MinnieMalone · 01/04/2010 22:55

It's quite pretty, but a bit of a mouthful. Sounds slightly like a drunk person slurring...(sorry!)

Lionstar · 01/04/2010 23:02

Was going to say the same as havinganightin. P.S. Am rather liking Quentine for a girl though

AllieW · 02/04/2010 11:08

I'm afraid it reminds me of 80s Christian choruses. I can just imagine someone singing "Shosanna in the name of the Lord"...

ChippingIn · 02/04/2010 13:00

Sorry, don't like it....

skihorse · 02/04/2010 13:59

If you're Jewish and you live in a Jewish community - great. If not, it's a bit "Mish Moneypenny" ishn't it?

clam · 02/04/2010 14:03

Nope. Sorry. Sounds pissed whichever way you try it.

remaincalm · 02/04/2010 14:28

I like it, I know a Shoshana called Shoshy for short.

kittywise · 02/04/2010 15:26

Nope, it sounds drunk

ericnorthmansmistress · 02/04/2010 17:56

Shoshy?

mathanxiety · 02/04/2010 17:57

Beautiful, and what's wrong with Jewish?

cananybodyhelp · 02/04/2010 17:58

My DSis gets 'shush'. (First name not Shoshana tho!)

easterbun · 02/04/2010 21:33

Sorry, pronounced as though just had a filling or got speech impediment.
