our top 2 have been slated in the past...ideas on a postcard please

So after 2 hours of baby naming for #2 at the weekend we like Aria and Kyla as our top 2 girls names...but both have been really slated on here in the past...

Our top boys choice is Byron

We are looking for a short name that has no nickname, that isn't popular at all in fact the rarer the better...

Honest thoughts and ideas please.. I'd rather hear now than to my face in the Autumn

surely you choose a name you like - does it matter what a bunch of strangers online think?

I like all three of those!

heres a tip dont ask strangers what they think of your names.figure it out yourself.are you really so inept/indecisive that you need strangers to aye or naw potential names

and fwiw whatever you pick someone will dislike for a spurious reason

Hate Aria - sounds pretentious pronounced properly, could end up like "arry a" in the wrong mouth.

Kyla - wouldn't be my favourite but pretty enough.

Byron - don't do it. Can you imagine him aged 16 on a rugby pitch with someone yelling "pass it Byron"? I just ran this one past my 16 year old son and he's still laughing.

Unless you're in New Zealand in which case there is a very well-known rugby player with the name Byron Byron Kelleher

I know girls called Aria and Kyla in NZ, not my faves but if you like them, go for them.

Aria sounds like simone from a Jilly Cooper novel. What about Ariana instead?

Byron - very Oz.

Kyla - I know two so not that rare.

ok, i don't like any of them. Maybe you need more time to think. my dd didn't have her name picked till 3 days before she born, (and she was overdue!!)

Byron is an excellent name.

Kyla and Aria sound a bit wishy-washy and undefined to me. I prefer stronger sounding names.

Byron is fantastic imo.

Not keen on Kyla or Aria though.

Byron is my nephew's name and it is just awful. I'm sorry, but I've never known a name to suit a small child less (and I don't mean it doesn't suit his personality, I mean it just doesn't suit any child). I think it only starts sounding ok-ish when someone is in their 50's and fairly aristocratic.

Aria has too many vowels - I agree with MamaLazarou - a bit wishy-washy.

Kyla is the best of a bad bunch - have you thought of Kaya/Kaia - a combination of the two that I think is lovely - the hard 'K' negates the wishy-washy-ness of the vowels.

Personally, I don't like them but like others, would never have asked on here. I chose a name I liked and that was that.

As somebody said on another thread, the names Brayden, Jayden, Morgan etc are roundly slated on here but seem popular in rl so MN isn't the final word.

I love Aria, and Byron is a good name. I went to school with a Byron, and he was lovely.He was very cool, and sporty, and no one would have ever thought of laughing at his name.

Not so keen on Kyla.

Honestly you need to go with what you and dh like. I doubt my choices would be popular on here but it doesn't bother me. I don't really like traditional British names so opted for gaelic ones (I do have Irish blood so British born).

What about Bruno instead ?

Bry is nowhere near as nice as Byron.

I disagree Lynette - she wants a short sharp name that can't be shortened and Bryn is similar to Byron without sounding like they have poetic aspirations or couldn't spell Bryan

Kyla, sorry but I just think it sounds ugly. And common. Sorry. I am a snob. And I am going to hide now.

Went to school with a Byron who was incredibly hot and he never got his name shortened.

I love Byron.

Aria and Kyla sound a bit nothing-y, just some letters put together that you can pronounce. They don't sound like names. How about Skylar? I don't love it but it is unusual and has a similar sound to Kyla.

I know its my choice I'd just like to get some idea of possible reactions or consensus before I make my decision so I really appreciate the input to date.

#1 son is called Kade, which we are both very happy with and finding it hard to follow

Bruno makes me think dogs, Kaya could be shortened to Kay, Bryn sounds a bit too much like bin for me

I had considered sky/skylar but not sure dh would go for it....we also looked at Ciel as a middle name

Any more ideas would be much appreciated.
