boys' names with good nickname

Ds2 is on the way, and we're trying to find a name with both a full version and nn that we like (Ds1 is Oscar - Os). Any strong feelings on the following?

Laurence - Laurie
Edward - Ned
Wilfred - Wilf

I think we're veering towards Laurie atm, as love the shortened versions of the other two, but not convinced about the full names...

Wilf is lovely... Know a couple of little Stans too well to copy - it seems to be quite a 'now' name. Like it though.

They are all quite posh names. Are you posh? If so, Algie is a good posh name, there was an Algie on little princess this morning

Great suggestions, thanks! Nathaniel is my brother's name, and dh has an anti-biblical name thing which would probably preclude Gabriel and Solomon, though they're lovely names.

we're not posh, just middle middle class! Interesting to hear the associations that names have for others though...

Yep,milly - Laurie says Little Women to me too, plus Laurie Lee, which are both good associations I think.

Nathaniel seems to be a popular choice. Shame it's my brother's name, or I'd definitely consider it. Nat is great.

I like names with lots of shortenings too. Christopher has good nnames - Christy, Kit, Kester all good . . .

The Jems that I've known have been short for Jerome or Jeremy, either of which might be easier than Jeremiah?

Ted & Ned are fab ! also love Kip or Kit (for Christopher)

We had Laurence on our list for boys - love Laurie but was a teeny bit concerned he may become a Lozza at some point

Love Jem as a nn for Jeremy (but Jezza is vile obviously)

Like Edward nn Ted/Ned but not keen on Eddie

In the end, we tried to think of names where we liked all possible nicknames because even though you may choose one particular nickname, other people may chose something else.

We ended up with Fergus (nn Ferg or Gus)

Wilf(red) is a cool name but im biased cos of my wonderful Wilf!! (Pics on profile!!) My niece was eighteen months old when Wilf was born, she had great fun with our names. My late dh's name was Frank.
