Ds2 is on the way, and we're trying to find a name with both a full version and nn that we like (Ds1 is Oscar - Os). Any strong feelings on the following?

Laurence - Laurie
Edward - Ned
Wilfred - Wilf

I think we're veering towards Laurie atm, as love the shortened versions of the other two, but not convinced about the full names...

Opinions gratefully received

for DC3 we have absolutely decided on Isaac for a boy- with Ike as a nickname. It makes me smile.

mine is james, we call him Bo, short for jimbo.
so suits him, is cute.

I love lots of these nicknames - Kit, Ike Jonty, Jem, Herb, Bo are all fab... I think we're struggling more with the full names. I know lots of people register their children with a shortening nowadays, but I feel quite strongly that I'd like him to have a 'serious' name to use if he ends up being an accountant instead of a potter. Also our surname is Hamilton, so I think names that are too long sound a bit fussy. Would prefer to go for something short and simple.

I'm encouraged at the positive feedback to Laurie - it's mainly had good reactions in RL, but one or two s from family members.

I agree tillyscoutsmum about Ned/Ted but not so much Eddie. Guess it's important to find a name for which you like all possible shortenings, in case he changes his mind later. Fergus is very cool

lottie - ROFL at your niece!

Sidney/Sid
Franklin/Frankie/Frank
Benjamin/Benji

of your list I think I prefer Edward/Ned.

My ds is Laurie so obviously gets the thumbs up with me!!

Funnily enough, we also considered Ned which I still really like. Kit is nice too

Great minds, mintyfresh! I think we're more or less decided on Laurie - we'll stand firm in the face of the naysayers, and hopefully they'll grow to love it.

pasiphae - fun but not silly is exactly what I'm aiming for. We went through a long phase toying with Herb(ie), but again just don't think I could saddle him with Herbert.

Thanks for all the help everyone
