So 10 weeks on from finding out it's a boy we still do not have a name for him

DP and I cannot agree on anything, we have given up, we don't even talk about it anymore although he did say he would give me a shortlist today.

His names:
Logan
Marcus
Lucas
Damien

My names:
Elliot
Matthew (at a push)

I just don't want an alright name, I love my girls names and want to love my boys as well. Have trawled through loads of websites, been on here asking for suggestions and still nothing.

To make things worse we live in (how can I describe it) West Central Scotland where a boy with your more interesting names might as well have "punch me" tattooed on his head so little Raphael, Benedict or Tobias is out. Names round here for boys tend to be straightforward like Alex, Thomas, Callum, Ryan, James, Andrew, Ben, Nathan, Joseph etc

Am fearful we will never find a name for this boy. We never in a million years thought we would have a boy, we had our girls names sorted.

I would say that I found it much more obvious what DS should be called once if was born. But it's nice to have a shortlist you agree on of course! From your lists I think Matthew and Marcus are nicest. Have you considered Luke, Michael, Jonah, David, John, Fred, Samuel? All fairy straightforward but very nice too IMO. Or what about Oscar, Leon, Issac, Otis, Hugh, Hugo, Angus, Gregory, Francis, Timothy, Christopher- Kit for short..? Good luck

I have a boy, 9mths now. I definately didn't want anything too weird for a boy so he would at least not get picked on for that, why make life any more difficult for him? I chose a list of names, my husband crossed off all the ones he didn't like, then I had a rethink and crossed off some more, and we got there. We also discussed it with my then 2yr old daughter who gave her opinion of the shortlist. I suppose if you want a more "interesting" name it can always be a middle name.

yama · 14/03/2010 08:31

At the moment I only have Euan and John (Johnnie) on my shortlist. In Scotland too .

Dh likes Connor but there are about 20 of them at the school where I teach.

What about Struan?

yama · 14/03/2010 08:32

Oh, and I have always loved Michael but it was on my shortlist for dd so it doesn't seem right to consider it.

Girls names are so much easier aren't they?

sweetkitty · 14/03/2010 09:03

Oh yes there's about 10 girls names I love.

His middle names will be David John so that's sorted.

yama - I agree Connor also v popular around here.

Liam-Kyle is a nice boys name.

sweetkitty · 14/03/2010 09:59

Sorry Redbin but I hate double barrelled names having one myself. Liam and Kyle are nice but don't float my boat plus our surname is very short so need a longer first name.

And I am extremely fussy.

we had this with ds4, found out the sex at the twenty weeks scan and still couldnt agree on a name, he was two weeks old before he got a name, and we ummed and ahhhed over loads.

we ended up calling him Rudi, with Arlo as a middle name

my other boys are

Theodore David William
Oscar Reuben
Dylan Lucas

for some other ideas

good luck but dont stress to much, you may find when the baby is born that something comes to you

I love your dh's short list!

janeiteisFedUp · 14/03/2010 10:52

Lucas and Matthew are the best imho. I don't like Logan at all.

LaDiDaDi · 14/03/2010 10:55

Elliot is my favourite from your list.

cece · 14/03/2010 11:38

I like Matthew from your lists

Some other names we considered;

Edward
Gregory
Noel
Samuel
Ethan (that one is DH's)

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 14/03/2010 11:45

Well I know someone also in west of scotland who has named their newborn son Wayne. Now that will be confusing for the wean in years to come. Just some advice on names that might not be suitable.

BessieBoots · 14/03/2010 11:46

I like your list, but not your DHs...
What about Daniel?

yama · 14/03/2010 11:48

Keir is quite a nice name Sweetkitty.

MamaLazarou · 14/03/2010 11:50

Marcus is really lovely, classic, slightlky unusual but not poncy.

Elliot and matthew also very nice.

Max is a good no nonsnese name a boy can feel happy with.

jellybeans · 14/03/2010 17:18

Evan
Flynn

Raahh · 14/03/2010 20:14

Elliot

but am very biased

nappyaddict · 15/03/2010 02:52

Sorry none of them are jumping out at me. From other people's lists I like:

Stephen
Gregory
Nate/Nat
Alistair
Robert
Bobby
Keir
Noel
David
Theodore
Rudi
Arl o
Jonah
Johnnie
Isaac
Euan
Struan
Otis
Hugh
Hugo
Angus

sweetkitty · 15/03/2010 08:41

Stephen - know one
Gregory - don't like
Nate/Nat - know a few well Nathans
Alistair - don't like
Robert - can't have a R
Bobby - no estranged family DH
Keir - no
Noel - no
David - middle name
Theodore - no
Rudi - R
Arl o - no
Jonah - unlucky
Johnnie - no
Isaac - know one
Euan - know loads
Struan - DP doesn't like
Otis - cats name

See what I mean I am useless, you would think after 3 girls names we would have a load of boys ones we liked.
