How do you pronounce Mila? And do you like it?

Would you pronounce it Mee-la or Miller?

I have just found this name and love it for my mythical DD3. DH is worried it's too foreign sounding to go with our other DD's names (both ofvwhich see actual common in both the UK, Spain and Russia).

Oops, that should read "both of which are actually common..."

But how do you know you love it if you don;t know how to pronounce it? [baffled emoticon}

Aubergines · 06/03/2010 08:42

Sorry, to clarify I know how I would pronounce it, but if everyone else pronounces it differently I would not love it so.

Milla is how I'd pronounce it. I think it's a lovely name actually.

FairyTrucker · 06/03/2010 08:45

Milla. No.

suwoo · 06/03/2010 08:50

I'd pronounce it Mee-la.

Fruitbatlings · 06/03/2010 08:50

I thought it was Mile-a

Pekkala · 06/03/2010 08:52

Call her Camilla and use Milla as a nickname?

Adair · 06/03/2010 09:00

I would think it was Mee-la but if I was told it was Milla, or Mile-a I would pronounce it like that! I think it sounds quite pretty in all variations. I wouldn't worry about 'foreign-sounding' in the UK tbh (not the area I live in anyway).

NiceShoes · 06/03/2010 09:02

I would say Mee-la

Vivia · 06/03/2010 12:27

It's pronounced Milla but will probably cause confusion as many think it's Meela or Mile-a. Definitely Milla though.

Tortoise · 06/03/2010 12:30

I thought i was pronounced mile-a, same beginning sound as Milo.

ooosabeauta · 06/03/2010 12:35

It's a lovely name but going to be a bit of a pain if you and she spend your lives explaining how to pronounce it. If you like the 'milla/miller' pronunciation, maybe you could consider using 'Camilla' as her name, then everyone would know how to pronounce it and you can mainly use the shortened version 'milla'.?

Oquioqui · 06/03/2010 12:36

I thought it was Mile-a (like a female Milo)

Lovethesea · 06/03/2010 12:36

I'd say Mee-la but I'm not that keen on it.

Reminds me of Mia.

ooosabeauta · 06/03/2010 12:36

Oh sorry Pekkala, I somehow missed you there! Great minds think

ooosabeauta · 06/03/2010 12:38

I'm sure I wrote 'alike' there! Having a bad day for this, better go away I reckon

bellissima · 06/03/2010 13:21

Nice. but similar to the name for those teeny white spots babies get....milia?

Collision · 06/03/2010 13:23

It is pronounced Mee-la and my friend has a dd called this.

It is Indian.

Her other dd is called Hayley. Same dad.

kiwichika · 06/03/2010 18:43

When i saw the post i thought of it as souning simmilar to Milo so id pronounce it My-la.

CuppaTeaJanice · 06/03/2010 19:13

The only time I've come across the name with just one l is Mila Kunis, the actress from That 70s Show and Family Guy. She pronounces it Meela.

Missus84 · 06/03/2010 19:16

I would pronouce it Meela.

I have known a couple of girls called Milla though (one Finnish, one German) and think it's very pretty too.

Heated · 06/03/2010 19:21

There was a thread today about the skin condition milia which unfortunately was my first thought.

tartyhighheels · 06/03/2010 19:24

i think it is mee-la

Buda · 06/03/2010 19:33
