my dd are called emily and annabel. not the most unusual names i know. they are 2 and 7 months. i still like both the names but have to admit that i still smile when i say annabel as i like it so much. let my oh choose both name sso i am lucky i liked them. not sure what i will think of emily though when she goes to schoola nd she is one of 7 in her class

how do you feel about your childrens names now you have lived with them for a bit.

eldest 16 - still adore it
Ds2 13 - really like it
DD 7 - love it

We have an EMIly too and I love it. SHe is just an EMily!

DD is 2 and is Imogen Sophia and I still love both names. (Sophia is her middle name, it's not double-barreled.)

Have a Mia Tabitha. Secretly though I'd prefer Tabitha as her first name. Shhhh

Lockets I love the name Saskia. I have 2 boys 9 & 12 and still very happy with names.

7y DD is called Mollie and I am still really happy with her name. It really suits her and I still thing it is a pretty name.

I've got an Anna who is 16 months and I still think it is just her - I wanted a strong name that would suit any personality, shy or outgoing.

Initially it wasn't on my list, DH put it forward and by the time we'd had her it had worked its way up and pushed other names off.

V happy with dd1's name, 15 years later - although she says that she doesn't like it.

I love dd2's name (she's 12) but at the time we named her we had no idea how popular it was. Now there are three in her class I think.

Love mine, all unusual. I noticed the youngest never got enthusiastic comments from other people but it never bothered me, it is a rocknroll name that he will love when he's older.

Thomas (3) just is a Thomas. My SIL says he couldn't be called anything else whereas her son who's the same age has never suited his name (Josh).

Lydia is only 7 months old but I still adore her name.

I've got a DS with a name which I know a lot of people hate but he loves it and so do I. It suits him so much as he really brings the meaning of it wherever he goes.

DD's name suits her but sometimes I wish we'd spelt it the more traditional way. I don't love it though but I can't imagine her with anything else now.

Mine all suit their names and i still love them all especially dd4's as it wasn't even a contender until she was born and she just looked like a Tilly.

My dds are 13 and 11: love the 13s name which although it did not seem an unusual name, is quite uncommon; love the 11's too but it has a very easy shortened version and unfortunately she was in hospital for a long time and the shortened version just became the one we all used though secretly I prefer the long one.

mabel is my dd1 middle name. named after my great gran and i did read that it is in the top ten most unpopular names but i love it. wish i had the guts to give it to her as a first name really but got such horrid reactions from family and friends.

I had no idea what to call our son when he was born, then my DH pulled the name Rory out of thin air, & that was it, it just suited him down to the ground! He is just a Rory!! Different but normal!

I love DS1s name more than DS2s. DS2s name has become quite popular, and I sometimes wish I had given him his second name (Matthew).

BUT, it suits him, and he likes it, so .....

those are lovely names and they go togehter well.

My boys are aged 13, 12 and 7 and I adore their names although ds2 has a name that seems to appear with sickening regularity on those "chav" name threads. I maybe wish I had known how popular and ill-favoured it was going to be, in which case, I might have named him differently, but I chose his name because it was similar to my maiden name, and I liked it originally so I am trying not to let its reputation spoil it for me.

Dd's name I really don't care for that much. She is nearly 10 and I still wish I had given her her middle name (Isabella) as her first name and given her one of two alternative middle names, either Mary, after my mother, or Milly as she was born in Millennium year. I don't know what induced me to name her as I did. It was entirely my choice, entirely not in keeping with the sort of name I like and, all in all, a Big Mistake

a mistake in what way?

If I'd named my children just me on my own, they'd both have different names. I know what those names are and I still hold them in my head. But I suppose as it was a decision that had to be reached with another person I can't expect to 100% love their names?

People over-analyse on these boards in a way that they don't in real life. I know I do. I offer up an opinion on all these names, and yet, if I met a child with that name in real life I wouldn't think about their name more than I'd think about the child. So I don't think people should worry too much about what they read about their children's names on this board.

I agree with you FairyTrucker about not worrying too much about what people on this board think of names.

In a way it amuses me to have ds2's name held up as a typical troublemaker's name because that could not be further from the truth. If teachers really are looking down their registers and quaking at the thought of a child with my son's name, they must be getting one hell of a pleasant surprise!
