I promise I don't check registers and make judgements beforehand! Except if the child is called Junior, Adolf or Cain anyway. Oops!

MmeLindt · 05/03/2010 17:08

I still love my DC's names, they are 5yo and almost 8yo.

I sometimes wish that the 'old lady names' had come back into fashion earlier so that I could have used Beatrice. It was my Gran's name and when we had DD it was though of as very old fashioned.

Still, the name that we chose was and is my favourite girls name.

Even if we do pronounce it incorrectly

Dumbledoresgirl · 05/03/2010 17:08

ha! I thought so

izzybiz · 05/03/2010 17:09

I love my childrens names!

Ds1 is 17 and his name is Toby, its my most favourite boys name ever! (Even though some old people think its better suited to a dog )

Dd 5 is Isabelle, spelled that way as it looks prettier!

Ds2 17 months is George, my late Grandads name, though his middle name is Stanley and I sometimes wish I'd been brave enough to use that as his first name!

OrmRenewed · 05/03/2010 17:11

Yes. They'be grown into them and now I can't imagine having called them anything else

SoMuchToBits · 05/03/2010 17:13

That's interesting dg, as I think your ds's names all kind of "go with" each other well, whereas your dd's name doesn't fit with them so well. Isabella seems to fit better IYSWIM - maybe you can persuade her to use her middle name.

I am still very happy with our Jonathan - I can't imagine him being called anything else, he is such a Jonathan!

thelunar66 · 05/03/2010 17:14

DD is 22 and DS is 18. I still love both their names. They love their own names too.

Dumbledoresgirl · 05/03/2010 17:18

Thanks Somuchtobits, my feelings exactly.

If I could only turn back the clocks 10 years...

SoMuchToBits · 05/03/2010 17:24

Ah well, she'll still be the same person, whatever her name is.

I hate my own name though, have never liked it!

skidoodle · 05/03/2010 17:33

Toby is such a great name, one of my very favourite boys' names

DD1's (nearly 2) name I love, love, love. I love it so much that I found it hard to come up with a girl's name when pregnant with DD2. I just wanted to use the same name again

I like DD2's (5 weeks) name a lot. I decided on it early in pregnancy, then got bored of it and DH went off it. We nearly made a completely different (and very poncey, even for us) choice but the day she was born I changed my mind and went back to this name. I'm glad we did, but still don't love it as much as DD1's name.

"I wouldn't think about their name more than I'd think about the child."

I would. I have two nephews called the same name, which I absolutely loathe and every time I hear it I shudder. It's a really popular name too.

janeiteisFedUp · 05/03/2010 21:07

I love the name Toby/Tobias. I have an Isobel and think that's the prettiest spelling - shall we fight for it, Izzybiz?!

wilkos · 05/03/2010 21:24

Love DD's name - Lily, but if I had full responsibility for naming her she would have been Marianne or Tabitha or something a bit more unusual.

I do sometimes wish I had called DD Elizabeth on her birth certificate though, so she had an"official grown up" name for when shes older, like I do!

Tortington · 05/03/2010 21:27

yup love them all - all faily vanilla names - but i love them all the same

PinkKumquat · 05/03/2010 21:30

I love my dds names, dd1 has a fairly popular (some might say common) name which is often sneered at on MN and dd2 has a pretty unusual name.
I love them both and don't really care if there are other dcs called the same name in the class.

Heated · 05/03/2010 21:32

Still adore ds' name - biblical, simple, but not overused.

Dd's name I regret tbh (would only admit this on here and to dh) and I wish I had chosen something more traditional or simple. She's known by her nn which is ubiquitous and a bit common now. 3 years down the line there are now names I prefer a lot more. Dh still loves it though which makes me feel better.

janeiteisFedUp · 05/03/2010 21:38

Custardo - what is a vanilla name? I so agree re: Big Bird btw.

bananamumma · 05/03/2010 21:42

I still love my DD's name and it would appear on my 'top names lists' today.

She is Imogen Anna.

ilikeyoursleeves · 05/03/2010 21:47

I love DS1's name- Jamie, totally suits him and it feels natural calling him that. However, DS2 is called Zach and TBH I'm still not 100% used to it even though he is now 7 months. I have to sometimes think what his name is and still call him DS1's name at times. His name has got a few so think that affected me a bit. I sometimes regret that we didn't go with the alternative name, Ben. Not sure if he suits that either though!

Out of interest, what are the 'chav' names you are all referring to?

Dumbledoresgirl · 05/03/2010 21:51

Well, my ds2's name is Connor which seems to get put on the Mumsnet List of Chavvy Names and I have to admit I have seen the same suggestion in the press too.

But my Connor is highly intelligent, angelic and gorgeous in every way.

Tortington · 05/03/2010 21:53

as in failry common to the ear. such as thomas, jack etc.

Heated · 05/03/2010 21:56

dd's nickname is Evie which I thought was quite old fashioned and biblical enough to pair with ds' name but it's gone/going the way of chav.

People do like her full name but it feels a bit of a mouthful, plus when I do use it dd often says, "No, it's Evie".

Am thinking though of putting her full name of her school name tapes when she starts - that way she might one day learn how to spell it!

liahgen66 · 05/03/2010 21:59

I have a dd 4yrs - Emily. I have to say no I don't really like it, I never have and I don't call her it. I didn't choose it. I don't know how long i will call her by her family nickname and don't really know what i'll call her when that time comes.

janeiteisFedUp · 06/03/2010 00:05

Aha. I think my dds have vanilla names too then.

janeiteisFedUp · 06/03/2010 00:05

I like Emily.

skidoodle · 06/03/2010 08:06

Connor is a chav name?

Gosh not where I come from. To me it's a normal man's name. I like it very much, but prefer it spelled with one n.
