What do you think of Amelia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

ok-nice
quite popular round here

AllieW · 21/02/2010 11:40

Pretty - my friend's daughter (who turns 1 next month) is called Amelia. I also quite like Amelie.

LynetteScavo · 21/02/2010 11:41

Goergous. Pretty, yet strong, but very, very popular.

There will be atleast one other in the class/playgroup/maternity ward.

Bonsoir · 21/02/2010 11:42

I think it's twee.

ReneRusso · 21/02/2010 11:48

Love it. But I might be biased as my DD is Amelia. It's not too popular, there are only one or two others in the whole school.

LynetteScavo · 21/02/2010 11:50

It's so not twee. Amelie is tweeer more twee, IMO.

Blanchet · 21/02/2010 13:45

I've never warmed to it and it is everywhere now.

HalcyonDaze · 21/02/2010 14:29

I have an 8 year old Amelia and she is the only one in her class and school. Maybe when she gets to secondary school there will be others.

SE13Mummy · 21/02/2010 15:05

It's a pretty name although I personally wouldn't use it as I know of a few 5-year-old Amelia/Amahle/Amalies and a couple of friends have had an Emelia/Emilia in the past year.

bellissima · 21/02/2010 15:11

Like it. Much prefer to Amelie, which really will date. Like Milly as nn as well.

BarbaMamma · 21/02/2010 15:23

Lots of Amelias around here - doesn't excite me, sorry. Emilia does though - much more unusual and loveitloveitloveit.

MalloryKnox · 21/02/2010 15:24

Aw, I love it

Maria2007loveshersleep · 21/02/2010 15:30

I like Amelia. I also like Emilia & Natalia or even Natalie (more simply). I was thinking of Natalia myself for a girl (with the accent on the 'i' not the 'a'). Of course Emily is lovely & simple too.

But I do agree amelia & emilia are very popular if you care about those kinds of things.

GibbonInARibbon · 21/02/2010 15:34

I love the name but always makes me think of the song by the Mission so could not use it.

Doubt you are an old goth like me though so it'll be fine

Oquioqui · 21/02/2010 16:30

I like it

mii · 21/02/2010 16:51

Loads of them around here

Rindercella · 21/02/2010 16:53

Love it, very pretty but very, very popular.

nighbynight · 21/02/2010 17:09

Love it.

mathanxiety · 21/02/2010 18:05

All I hear is the sound 'meal'.

Clary · 21/02/2010 18:15

I like it but there a lot in our schools. If I include Emilia as well (don't always know which it is!) I can quickly (so there may be more) think of nine at my DCs' schools (about 500 pupils together).

coolma · 21/02/2010 18:18

My eldest (20) is Maisie Amelia - both of which were considered really 'wierd' when she was born and seem rather to have taken off. I reckon that was my doing

Beautiful and my favourite girls name

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 21/02/2010 18:41

Bit boring imo, sorry.
Very popular in my school.
Prefer Amelie.

vivivi · 21/02/2010 20:46

I think it's really lovely, Millie could be used for nn which is also nice.
