What do you think of Amelia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I so regret not calling DD Amelia. I am trying to persuade her to let me change it now. (She is 7) But she will only let me change her name to Rosie.

I love it a lot (as you might have guessed ).

It's not so popular round here, though you can't move for Amelies.

houseworkhater · 21/02/2010 23:04

I like it, very femminine.

Lori73 · 28/02/2010 19:06

Always loved it but someone spoiled it for me by telling me about the medical condition of the same name. Hence prefer Emilia. Also really like Amelie, which sounds a bit softer/gentler to me.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 28/02/2010 19:09

I think it is a beautiful name

MrsJohnDeere · 28/02/2010 19:24

Lovely. I like Amelie too. I know one of each in RL and they're both really lovely children.

amandine07 · 28/02/2010 20:50

Makes me think Enid Blyton's Naughty Amelia Jane!! I work with the Armed Forces and it seems every officer has a daughter called Amelia and a black labrador - I think you have to have those before you get your commission!!

GuntherMcKilocodie · 01/03/2010 22:38

Emilia is the Italian version actually. DD2's middle name is Emilia, Italian spelling 'cos DH is Italian! I love it. Kind of wish it was her first name.

reallywoundup · 01/03/2010 22:42

i have an Amelia- she's a Millie though, we don't really use the full name

zozzle · 02/03/2010 23:07

Not keen.

sunnydelight · 03/03/2010 04:50

Gorgeous.

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 08:46

I like it but there are a good few. It is nice though. I like Millie too. I knew a girl from Barcelona called Camellia which is nice too. It doesn't rhyme with Amelia. It is camELya.

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 08:47

Amelia means without limbs. But.... it also means hardworking. I think.

SpottySlippers · 03/03/2010 17:01

DD1 is Emilia; was originally going to call her Amelia but it seemed to be everywhere five years ago; not sure how common it is now.......it is shortened to Millie or Mimi.

One or two people struggle to pronouce though - we have always pronounced it as in Emily but with "ia" at the end, if that makes sense........? Her name gets alot of compliments and we are pleased with the choice we made.......love Ameila too.

liliputlady · 03/03/2010 20:47

I can see why people choose it, but it's far too sweet and girly sounding for my taste. I don't think it would suit a tom-boy very well.

asampras · 04/03/2010 11:00

My dad chose my name after Amelia Earhart. As a child i HATED being an 'Amelia' because going back 30 years it wasn't a common name and people would always mistakenly call me Emily! the irony makes me laugh that it is now considered a 'popular' name!!

MrsPixie · 04/03/2010 11:02

doesn't roll off the tongue for me

it's all eeeee

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 14:55

A bit too sweet and makes me think of someone slightly precocious. I prefer Emilia.
