I really like it. For Ds2. But is it just tooooooooo poncey? We might be living in Brighton soon so that might help.

If mn says it's not poncey then I might be able to persuade dh .

As in Miley and Billy Ray?

It sounds like a surname to me, with the above links too.

TequilaMockinBird · 09/02/2010 15:23

Hmm reminds me of Hannah Montana tbh.

Sorry!

Ondine · 09/02/2010 15:24

I don?t think of it as poncey, the opposite infact.

Very country music.

GrimmaTheNome · 09/02/2010 15:25

Presumably you were thinking more of Cyrus the Great - which is a bit poncy TBH, even if it wasn't currently spoiled by Hannah Montana.

minipie · 09/02/2010 15:28

errmmm being honest I just think of "Cyrus the Virus" (creepy John Malkovitch character from that film Con Air.)

but that's probably just me

Hullygully · 09/02/2010 15:29

I like it. But it's tricky.

skidoodle · 09/02/2010 15:33

trashy more than poncey

nasty

LetThereBeRock · 09/02/2010 15:34

I like it. It makes me think of the Persian emperor not Miley Cyrus, though most likely because I haven't got children yet so have been able to avoid the Hannah Montana craze.

mathanxiety · 09/02/2010 15:34

I think it's a bit American. Not country music though -- to me it's one of those names like Homer and Virgil that were popular back in the early 20th century in the US. I think there was some politician named Cyrus... yes, Cyrus Vance, Secretary of State under Jimmy Carter. So I think of polyester and bad 70's haircuts, shades of brown and tan, in a way.

Blanchet · 09/02/2010 16:00

I see where you're coming from with "poncy"; it's the 'us' ending, I think! Yeah... sorry but it does have a slight poncy feel to me. Not terribly so, but... since you ask! Sorry.

I knew a Cyrus - but he was Iranian, so it was a perfectly appropriate name. Ithink it's nice, as long as you don't mind him being nicknamed "Cy".

Ilovemybed · 10/02/2010 09:14

thanks all - I am not so worried about the Hannah Montana thing, I don't think she'll be around by the ds is worried about his name.

I wasn't really worried that it was trashy so that's really funny.

hummm.................

undecided still.

Either you are 14 and have a HSM themed bedroom, or you've got a penchant for very old very fat (and possibly dead) American politicians.

Either way, it's a no.

Amapoleon · 10/02/2010 09:30

Sorry reminds me of Miley.

itsallaboutpootle · 10/02/2010 09:32

A bit chavvy. My dd daughter goes to school with a Cyrus and he is a little sod, and from a chavtastic family!

doubleexpresso · 10/02/2010 10:13

Know male Cyrus - don't like it. Sounds like you're trying too hard. Sorry.

LowLevelWhingeing · 10/02/2010 10:18

No it is the opposite of poncey, but not in a good way.

arionater · 10/02/2010 10:54

Quite a common Iranian name, I like it; but you'd be gambling on the Miley Cyrus thing being over sooner rather than later. Do you like the likely nick-names too (Si? Russ? etc)

StrictlyKatty · 10/02/2010 17:52

I don't hear poncey I hear chav. I hate it personally.

readysalted · 10/02/2010 18:14

Billy Ray

bellissima · 11/02/2010 12:56

Like mathanxiety I immediately think 'Vance'. Showing my age.

Ilovemybed · 11/02/2010 14:09

boooooo I don't want to hear that it's chavvy.

OK back to the drawing board.

readysalted I love it too.
