i like the name but would make the initails FEM. in was thinking of going the oposite way around but it just doesnt seem right.
her name would be Florence eleanor...i have liked it since i was having Ds and he also has a traditional boys name. i know people are going to say im naming her after an old lady but i dont care...its just the initials.

Florence is a beautiful name and one of my favourites.

I don't like FEM are bad initials are they?

andlipsticktoo · 09/02/2010 13:11

Beautiful! I'd choose Florence if I had a DD! Regardless of the initials.

Ziggurat · 09/02/2010 13:33

The initials are fine!

If this baby is a girl, her initials will be HMC, which isn't ideal, but there you go!

As long as it doesn't spell out DIK or FUK or some such silliness, it's fine.

daisyj · 09/02/2010 13:35

Sounds fine to me - lovely names, and they go really well together that way round, too. I say go for it.

momofnearly2 · 09/02/2010 13:52

I know a girl who's called Femi and everyone calls her Fem, She's not had any problems so I doubt having FEM as initials will be a problem.

You have choosen a beautiful name.

TheFirstLady · 09/02/2010 13:55

I'm named after MY great-grandmother, I think it's a fine idea. I love the fact that my name is a link with our family history. And Florence is a lovely name.

TigerFeet · 09/02/2010 13:58

Florence Eleanor is just gorgeous

my dd's middle names are Ellen and Florence

initials not a problem imo

mathanxiety · 09/02/2010 14:47

No problem, imo. Lovely combination of names.

itshappenedagain · 09/02/2010 16:04

thanx all!
i do love the name and also my grandmother was a lovely woman...although she hated her middle name. the other thing is that people have a tendancy to shorten names...which drives me mad..i just kept correcting untill people got the idea.

Fab names. My daughter is named after her great-grandmother. Whilst I would have liked something a bit more alternative I worried about saddling her and us with a name that said more about us than anything else. So I went down the traditional route - but gave her a more interesting middle name.

mathanxiety · 09/02/2010 17:07

I stuck with family names all the way through, for first and middle names. Makes a baby seem familiar and 'one of the tribe' right from the start.

Flightattendant · 09/02/2010 17:09

It's beautiful...

what will you use for short? Flo, or Florrie or something?

It pays to have something up your sleeve iyswim even if you mainly stick with Florence.

bellissima · 09/02/2010 17:15

My DD is named Eleanor after my great grandmother - and my grandmother. My great grandmother had seven girls and must have run out of inspiration - so used her own name for the youngest. Florence also lovely.

bellissima · 09/02/2010 17:17

PS - FEM is fine. Never even thought about my DDs initials. Spose if it came out as R.A.T. or something you might hesitate, but I wouldn't worry.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 09/02/2010 17:25

Each of my DDs have middle names from their great-great aunt and granny respectively - Cecilia and Alice. I think your names are beautiful and I love keeping family names. I wouldn't mind the initials, they seem fine to me.

Bucharest · 09/02/2010 17:29

Lovely names!

Gets a tick in Buch's box. Which is not easy

SoupDragon · 09/02/2010 17:32

Nothing wrong with FEM!

Don't call her Florence Ursula Catharine Kayleigh Eleanor M though.

BettyButterknife · 09/02/2010 18:47

Lovely.

If you're worried about FEM you could always sling another name into the mix... We had to do this with DS to avoid his initials being ASS and he's now ASJS which I sometimes call him.

MmeLindt · 09/02/2010 18:49

Lovely names, and FEM is fine.

Not often you see full initials anyway. DS is CAN but noone (except my Dad) commented on it.

thisisyesterday · 09/02/2010 18:50

Florence isn;'t an old lady name, it's lovely!

FEM wouldn't bother me in the slightest

Ivykaty44 · 09/02/2010 18:52

find another name to give - FE?M

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/02/2010 18:52

My DD's second middle name is her Great Grandmother's name, which makes her initials IMP + A. I think it's lovely to name after grandparents. Florence Eleanor is beautiful too.

WhatSheSaid · 09/02/2010 18:56

Florence Eleanor lovely

We added another middle name to stop dd's initials being ARS. We added Constance - both mine and dh's grandmother's name.

FEM fine as initial though

Clary · 09/02/2010 19:05

Florence is lovely. It was one of DS2's girl names IYSWIM.

Sadly then we have not used it so please do!

And actually tho old lady names are making big comeback (Grace, Ava, Ellen) Florence is less common than some (I don't know any small ones).

Re initials - no problemo. DS2 would had been FAB!

nighbynight · 09/02/2010 19:07

Florence is a lovely name.
