What do you think of Briar as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

just no

FimBOW · 03/02/2010 16:54

No.

It's the name of a road/street/place/avenue.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 03/02/2010 16:56

I thought there was a story about Briar Rabbit, but a quick google tells me it's Br'er.

As you were.

FimBOW · 03/02/2010 16:57

Is there not a Briar Rose, sister of Snow White or something???

monetinjanuary · 03/02/2010 17:01

That's right, Briar Rose. I'll be avoiding Rose as a possible middle name.

My OH vetoed Bertha and came up with this.

How about Briony? Or Brianne?

MiaWallace · 03/02/2010 17:03

Briar Rose was the name given to Sleeping Beauty when she lived in the forest

monetinjanuary · 03/02/2010 17:06

He doesn't like Bryony either.
Sleeping Beauty it is.

I knew it was something to do with Disney Princesses!

My dh wouldn't budge from Elinor, but we ended up with a ds.

Are you definately having a girl?

Sidge · 03/02/2010 17:11

I know a Briar.

I think it's quite pretty.

Saucepanman · 03/02/2010 17:14

Don't fret, 4yo dd has proclaimed this baby to be called Snow White, boy or girl

FimBOW · 03/02/2010 17:16

I know someone with an Ariel because she loves everything Disney

orienteerer · 03/02/2010 17:16

No, sounds like a bush

moondog · 03/02/2010 17:17

I thoguht it was nice...until I realised it is a hybrid of Brian and Liar.

Therefore, not nice aNYMORE.

bellissima · 03/02/2010 17:18

A thorny bush.

BadGardener · 03/02/2010 17:20

rather lovely and original but she will go through life with people thinking she's called Brian.

Ziggurat · 03/02/2010 17:31

"My OH vetoed Bertha "

Thank goodness.

I think Briar is nice.

MiaWallace · 03/02/2010 17:35

I know a little girl called Bryher which I think is a prettier version. Doesn't look so much like Brian

crumpet · 03/02/2010 17:39

Will it not constantly be mistaken for Brian? Nice name though.

pipinmybelly · 03/02/2010 18:11

im not fussed either think its quite OTT - my cousin is called Briar Rose and she a right little madam, her name suits her for that reason but i really dont like it...sorry

pipinmybelly · 03/02/2010 18:12

what about Bea?? my sisters middle name is beatrice - bea for short think its cute

GossipMonger · 03/02/2010 18:14

Bronte is prettier imho.

Briar - I thought, Brian, Brer Rabbit and Friar Tuck!!!!!

skinsl · 03/02/2010 18:20

I like it, unusual.
First thought was that it was a boy's name though.

BalloonSlayer · 03/02/2010 18:21

I like it. I know one and her sisters also have rose-related names.

monetinjanuary · 03/02/2010 18:47

No, not definitely having a girl. Boys are much easier and we've already decided on Felix or Rafferty, middle name Edward.
