Found out we are having another boy, need a name that goes with Milo (ds1) but have gone off anything like Oscar, Theo, Max, Ben etc. although they are lovely names!

At the moment we like:

Sebastian
Remy

Think i prefer Sebastian but basically really like french influenced without sounding too French because we are not!!

Louis? I think Milo and Louis are good together.

minimoonumbertwo · 25/01/2010 15:52

oh yes Barbarellas like it!

My fave French name for a boy is Blaise.

Unfortunately there is already one in my family, so I can't use it!

How do you know that mopsyflopsy? Is there a website I can go to that lists popular names in different countries?

CuppaTeaJanice · 25/01/2010 17:20

There was a really sexy boy on our French exchange called Maxim, so I've liked that name ever since. Don't know how you'd feel about two M names though.

pooter · 25/01/2010 17:23

I like Etienne and Pascal. DH didn't

mopsyflopsy · 25/01/2010 18:18

I got this French list from this German website - it lists the most popular names of different countries: www.beliebte-vornamen.de/602-international.htm (sorry, don't know how to do proper links)

There are probably english websites which provide the same lists.

Binkster · 25/01/2010 18:43

I love Remy, it's near the top of our list! I work with one and he's lovely.

choosyfloosy · 25/01/2010 18:47

Remy definitely! One of my fave films is The Big Easy.

kittykat77 · 25/01/2010 21:34

I LOVE Sebastian. Really wanted to use this one - unfortunately DH does not and I don't think I can persuade him... although baby is not due until July so I have a little time to work on him (that's if it ends up being a boy of course!)

NotAnOtter · 25/01/2010 22:31

Blaise is gorgeous

MaggieTaSeFuar · 26/01/2010 00:37

Arnaud

I think it fits in with the hugos and so on.

bellissima · 26/01/2010 09:10

I only Arnaud I know is indeed v posh (two 'de' s in the surname and several ancestors guillotined). I would possibly check with a vrai Francais as to whether the name does immediately conjure up 'Cecil Ponsonby-Smythe' connotations. I like Nathan but it's not particularly French. There again, I would avoid 'French spellings' like Alexandre and Marc if you are not actually French - I used to know a 100% English Marc and he was teased mercilessly.

Bella32 · 26/01/2010 09:16

Xavier

Lovely name and so cool to have 'x' as an initial

miumiu · 26/01/2010 09:17

My dh is French and our ds is called Edouard.

I love Augustin (he didn't) and Achilles (ditto) and Bartholemy (ditto). He liked Godfroi (jamais!!!).

There are 3 x Matthias and 2 x Max and 2 x Thibaud in ds1s class.

Ds2's mates are called Jonah, Briac, Aristide and Gregoire.

miumiu · 26/01/2010 09:18

Arnaud is fine as a name btw. Have been here 10+ years and never met a Blaise.

belgo · 26/01/2010 09:20

Leon
René

Bucharest · 26/01/2010 09:21

If you have no French connections, then you need a French-inspired name that "goes" in English as well....Love Sebastian, Lucas etc....You have to bear in mind that some of the more Frency French based names are going to be massacred by the English tongue

turtle23 · 26/01/2010 09:21

My DS is Pascal. I chose it because he was due on Easter Sunday (besides just liking it) and EVERY time I tell someone his name they say "Oh...is your H French?" "No." "OH."

Who cares though.

Loving both names!

miumiu · 26/01/2010 09:23

leon always reminds me of the film. Very cool but at the association!

Réné is passé. Old waiters....

imho.

Bucharest · 26/01/2010 09:25

Oh, no, Leon is too X-Factor Pantoboy back working in Gap after being huge flop connotation for me.

belgo · 26/01/2010 09:27

I know René is very old fashioned but I still love it.

I always associate Leon with the film; just as well I don't watch the x-factor!

Louis is lovely. Ds could have been Louis René (René after dh's grandfather) but I changed my mind.

minimoonumbertwo · 26/01/2010 14:17

Thanks so much everyone this is absolutely brilliant!

I really like Arnaud - do you think it's a)too french and b) to similar sounding to Milo?

mopsyflopsy that list is fantastic, thank you. Liking Mathis and Maxim, they are interesting but don't sound tooooo foreign...

Glad that Remy & Sebastian got a good reaction!

Thank you
