We really struggled to name DS1, and although I think we chose a blinder in the end i'm quite sure this next baby is going to be a boy just because we literally have nothing that we really like to call it!

Our shortlist is:

Huxley (my fave)
Monty (DP's fave)
Hugo (but surname starts with O' so probably not?)
Rudy (another of DP's)
Asa (was top for a while but I've gone off it)
Chester

We don't want anything too strange but we like very muich the fact that DS has quite a unique name and would like his brother to have that too!

I like Monty

Hugo nice but not with an O surname

don't like
Chester
Rudy
Huxley
Asa

fairimum · 22/01/2010 15:41

what is your DS called?
I like Hugo, chester and Rudy

LetThereBeRock · 22/01/2010 15:41

Hugo isn't bad, though if your surname begins with O then I wouldn't use it, but I don't like any of the others at all.

Hullygully · 22/01/2010 15:43

I like Monty

Jamieandhismagictorch · 22/01/2010 15:43

I like Asa and Rudy.

Hugo isn't bad.

Sorry, really dislike the others

Hullygully · 22/01/2010 15:44

Nigel

Huxley, Rudy, Chester & Monty are pooch names.

Hugo gets my vote.

bluebump · 22/01/2010 15:53

I love Hugo and Rudy. I wanted a Hugo but DP said no! (He'd probably have said the same if I had said Rudy too!)

passionberry · 22/01/2010 16:09

NOT Asa or Chester.

Quite like the others esp. Rudy.

BellasYummyMummy · 22/01/2010 16:10

I think you can use Hugo if your surname begins with O, a lot of people have told me the same thing as my surname ends in O but i have a few names i like ending in O.

tummytickler · 22/01/2010 16:12

I quite like Huxley actually! Monty is ok, Hugo is nice but a bit boring. Not keen on the others, and really don't like Chester.

crumpet · 22/01/2010 16:15

Alternative could be something like Redd - quite like it.

mazzystartled · 22/01/2010 16:17

I like Rudy and Asa

I don't like Huxley
Monty and Hugo too "posh" for my liking

Rolf · 22/01/2010 16:19

The only Asa I've ever known was a horrible scally toerag so not keen!

[steady on there] Chester!

Huge - ok

Huxley - ok

Monty - like it but would want to use it as a nickname, not on birth certificate (but I know some people have different views on this)

Rudy - ok but ditto re nicknames

thisisyesterday · 22/01/2010 16:22

love Rudy and Asa (but am biased on that one )

Slambang · 22/01/2010 16:22

Huxley (my fave)
Monty (DP's fave)
Hugo (but surname starts with O' so probably not?)
Rudy (another of DP's)
Asa (was top for a while but I've gone off it)
Chester

I think Hugo with an O surname is ok if the O is not pronounced 'Oh'. So Hugo Oswald or Hugo Offington-Smythe is fine but Hugo O'Malley or Hugo Overton sounds too Oh -y!

I like them all but if you want unusual I'd say that Asa is the most way out (but sounds slightly girlish??). Rudy my least fave for the 'rude boy' connotations - an invitation for name calling??

Slambang · 22/01/2010 16:24

Oops - not my fave or my dp's fave - we are not stalking you and copying your names in a weird stalkery way. Just copying and pasting in a lazy can't remembery way.

kellze · 22/01/2010 16:27

Huxley was a pig on a kids tv show.

Not sure I'd like that even though it was sometime ago.

Rindercella · 22/01/2010 16:27

I like Monty best, I rather like Rudy too (must have similar taste to your DH!). Huxley is sort of ok - if I met a little boy called Huxley I would think, how cute, but I don't think I would choose it personally. Hugo is ok. Really not keen on either Asa or Chester.

boodleboot · 22/01/2010 16:28

i love Huxley, it is on my list too.

i would say go for that.....

but Hugo is lovely too

annasmami · 22/01/2010 16:28

I like Huxley and Monty.

I have a Swedish friend and she is called Asa. I think it is a girls name in Scandinavia?

Rhuidean · 22/01/2010 16:31

I like Monty

Big no for Chester, its a comedy name.

Out of your list the only two I like are Monty and Hugo.

how about Jonty?

Wasn't there a Huxley Pig?

FeedTheBeast · 22/01/2010 16:50

This is so similar to my first list except for Asa! DH vetoed them all.

Love Chester but put off by friend who said Chester Draws & it doesn't suit our surname
LOVE Rudy. One adult Rudy I met was such a hottie as well and never bullied re name.
Not 100% on Monty - think it may be a little wet but i know it is popular
hugo fab, depends on the O sounds together.
Huxley like this, think both of Aldous Huxley and Huxley Pig. neither a problem for me really, Barney / Barnaby is used a lot and has connections to both Bears and Purple dinosaurs! Same re Milo and Tweenies, Rosie & Jim a few years ago etc etc
