We really struggled to name DS1, and although I think we chose a blinder in the end i'm quite sure this next baby is going to be a boy just because we literally have nothing that we really like to call it!

Our shortlist is:

Huxley (my fave)
Monty (DP's fave)
Hugo (but surname starts with O' so probably not?)
Rudy (another of DP's)
Asa (was top for a while but I've gone off it)
Chester

We don't want anything too strange but we like very muich the fact that DS has quite a unique name and would like his brother to have that too!

Hormones have a lot to answer for don't they ?

I'd go for Monty as long as you are relatively posh.

Annasmami is right, Asa is a Swedish girls name. I like Huxley, might have to steal that one!! Hmm, yes I think there might have been a Huxley Pig.

We have the same problem, once you have a great name you love for your first born, it's hard to find another one you like just as much. I wish I hadn't used DS's middle name as I could've used that for the next one.

activate · 22/01/2010 19:04

Your hormones have gone totally haywire I think

activate · 22/01/2010 19:05

Huxley is a pig or pet name

mathanxiety · 22/01/2010 19:08

I love Hugo and Asa, (which is a biblical boys' name).

Chunkamatic · 22/01/2010 19:11

Erm I think Asa is a hebrew name (if i have done my hours of baby-name book research correctly) and it appears in the bible - but I might have spelt it wrong. I can see how it could be a swedish girls name, it has that kind of sound....

Huxley is/was a pig. That is a sticking point! I think it was some time ago but obviously is still quite well known.

If we used Monty we would use Montgomery or Montague but for rhyming-with-surname purposes the latter is verging on the ridiculous.

I like Redd - would that be enough as a name on it's own or would it need to be Redmond do you think?

I have to say I mainly agree with all the comments about Chester!

thatsnotmymonkey · 22/01/2010 19:12

Hugo and Monty are ten a penny where I am. Too ubiquitous.
Rudy I love
Chester I hate. Chester Drawers!
Asa, it's OK
Huxley, reminds me of the The Cosby show.

I prefer
Jago
Aldous
Fraser
Magnus
What do you think?

janeite · 22/01/2010 19:14

Monty is v nice. Hugo and 'O' surname not great. I dislike the others, sorry. Redd/Redmund not good at all imho.

janeite · 22/01/2010 19:15

How about Aticus?

momofnearly2 · 22/01/2010 19:23

Asa is a lovely name! I know one little boy and one 30yr old man with the name Asa.

Both lovely people.

Asa is definately my fav.

MrsMattie · 22/01/2010 19:40

Rudy and Asa nice.

Huxley is preposterous.

seeker · 22/01/2010 19:45

Huxley is insane - honestly, it's your hormones.

Remember, you are giving another human being who is too young to give informed consent, an name he has to use in all circumstances for maybe 90 years. That's 90 years

If you like Huxley, change your own name to Huxley by deed poll and give your child a proper name.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 22/01/2010 19:54

Chester is ok-ish. The rest are NOT.

What about Jude? That seems close-ish to your taste?

jkklpu · 22/01/2010 19:56

all awful, especially Huxley which isn't a forename at all

hatebeak · 22/01/2010 21:01

I think you pronounce Asa when it's a Scandinavian name for girls "Orsa", but I might be wrong. How do you pronounce it when it's for a boy?
I like it best from your list, anyway, and Hugo's okay. Huxley would be fine on the right kid - but it's hard to know if he will be! - and I don't like Rudy or Chester. Can't help thinking of Uncle Monty from Withnail and I, either. How about Mortimer?

Chunkamatic · 22/01/2010 21:07

Ha ha Seeker I take your point... although I wouldn't have any particular objections to being known as Huxley.

What would you consider to be a normal name for a boy though? So I have some sort of normality to base my judgements on!!

IsThatTheTime · 22/01/2010 21:16

Boys names SO HARD. Spent an entire 5-hour car journey with my DH aguing about discussing boys names and came up with nothing. Thank crunchie I had girls!
(Sorry, not very helpful, but am feeling your pain) x

mathanxiety · 22/01/2010 21:21

Asa for a boy would be AI-sa.

Tortington · 22/01/2010 21:24

huxley - spose

monty - no

hugo - maybe

rudy - no no no

asa - what the fuck

chester - no no no no no no no

Adair · 22/01/2010 21:35

Asa is lovely, Chester ok

Hugo, Monty, Huxley, Rudy - all a bit too old man and of the moment for me (Alfie, Wilfred).

My son is Sky/Skyler (Schuyler). Ha!

(ignore Seeker, she's on a mission to name all children John or Yawn.)

Chunkamatic · 22/01/2010 21:39

Thanks all for your opinions - Seeker and Custardo you especially have had DP in tears he has laughed so much!!!

I am thinking maybe I need more help with this so am off to start another thread for suggestions and secretly pray to the lord that this child is a girl to save it at least some of the embarrasment we might inflict upon it...

Huxley Pig....google him, he exits!

I agree with cece above, Monty and Hugo are the most refined, nicest sounding names imo.

I also agree that Jonty is a lovely name, in fact I much prefer Jonty to Monty and Hugo

MistyRuby · 24/01/2010 13:23

and lmao at seeker!!!! hee, hee...

monetinjanuary · 24/01/2010 13:32

Huxley - is ridiculous, not nice if he was less than svelte.
Rudy - not a proper name, teasing likely at school
Asa - no, but at least it's a proper name so wins by a mile
Chester - don't be silly
Hugo - trying to be posh
Monty - mouse or dog name
