Help name DC4 - we cannot agree at all!

So, we have a Theo(dore) who is almost 6, so ahead of the curve I hope, but still it's now horribly popular, then a Rufus and although we have a girl's name sorted out, we cannot agree on this baby's name if it is a boy. We'd like it to be a 'smart' name IYKWIM, but not OTT, so things like Ptolemy and Tarquin are out for instance. We have a double-barrelled surname beginning with H, so although we both love Hugo, Henry and William, due to the surname, they don't work.

We thought we'd settled on either Magnus or Hector, but DH has now gone off those - particularly as with the -us ending on both Rufus and Magnus, it might be a bit OTT. We'd like to include Victor in the name as DH's grandfather was Victor, but neither of us like it enough to use it as a first name.

Help!!!

We're having similar problems deciding on DC4!! I notice you have a Tilly, is she Matilda? We have a Matilda

I love Benedict!
How about:

Grayson
Dexter
Lysander (I love OH doesn't!!)
Elliot

I'm probably not much help, but watching this thread with interest

PanicMode · 16/01/2010 11:24

Hi Doodlexyz - yes she's a Matilda too.

What are your other children called!? (nosy emoticon)

Grayson - Grayson Perry puts me off that one
Dexter - not sure it 'goes' with the others....
Lysander - like this, but would be shortened to Ly or maybe Xander
Elliot - I know three around here so that's popular in my book!!

Esmee - I love Ludo/vic but I used to work with one who put me off the name rather...it's growing on me though.

Mrs Mattie - great list - we've talked through a lot of them, but I'll work through it again with DH later as I can't remember why some of them were binned.

Sebastian I like - but don'tlike Seb....

This place is funny at times. It sounds like you are looking for something that won't catch on amoungst the lower orders!

How about Jerald/Gerald

doodlexyz · 16/01/2010 13:55

I have a Daisy and an Oliver (which hadn't even crossed our mind how popular it was when we chose it... Needed an "O" name )

I really don't know where to start with names for number 4 though

I quite like Clement/Clem, but DH doesn't.

Victor - will be in the name, but not the christian name as neither of us like it enough to have it as a first name.....

Austin - I like, DH doesn't
Tobias - too many Tobys
Barnaby - I love this, DH doesn't (bear connotations)
Alastair - possibly, but neither of us like Ali as a diminutive
Kenneth - don't like Ken
Charles - like, but too many Charlies around
Cecil - always makes me think of Room with a view and 'Cicil' so probably not.

Am quite like Percy, and DH mentioned Monty again last night after he'd vetoed it earlier....so round we go again!

The following names are all in use by people I know (of all different ages). Most of them are a little more adventurous I guess but their owners carry them off well.

Casper
Balthazar
Xavier
Hector - love it, know a gorgeous one.
Crispin
Sandro
Sacha
Edmund
Frederick - another vote!
Cyril
Ignatius - another vote!
Milo
Jonah
Soren
Teague - nn Tiggy. Twas the name of a gorgeous ex-boyfriend - sigh...

and Simon! You don't hear many these days.

I love Magnus too, but agree Rufus and Magnus is a bit too samey.

We met a little bou on a plane once travelling alone called Onni. It's a Scandanavian name which I think is lovely.

Also like Ludovic (know someone who has this name with a double-barrelled surname starting with H).

What about Christoph?
