Gregory, Louis, Arthur or Edward?

None of which DH likes but since he has offered a grand total of zero useful suggestions so far...

I'm particularly interested to hear what you have to say about Gregory as have not found it mentioned here.

Thanks

I really like Louis - think it sounds both traditional and modern, if you know what I mean!
Also like Gregory, but prefer Gregor. I had two really nice Gregors at school with me.
Not so keen on Edward or Arthur, they both sound a bit pompus and a bit old man to me.

Are you concerned with popularity at all? somebody posted a spreadsheet a while back of all the names for 2008 (rankings). can look and bump if you're interested.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 14/01/2010 21:33

ps, give us a name that sounds a bit like your sur name?

HarriedWithChildren · 15/01/2010 09:47

MMS, I am moderately concerned about popularity but I've found that despite all the supposed Jacks, Olivers and Toms etc... we only actually have one or two of each among all our nursery/friends and therefore not biggest deal.

All 4 names go rather well with our surname.

Do people really think Edward will rise in popularity because of Twilight? Isn't it a teen film? Teen Mums aside(!), will many adults actually see it and connect with it?

frizzylizzie · 30/01/2010 20:53

I am 36 and many of my friends (my age) are fans. I think it will influence some.

To the OP, I love all four names.

Arthur, Louis, Edward, Gregory would probably be my order of preference, but all very lovely.

I have an Arthur and it is a fine name. He already looks very noble

He was nearly called Eric or Ernest (although I hated Ernie so vetoed my own choice)

Meeely3 · 30/01/2010 20:57

Arthur and Edward - those are my twins names

I also have a Charlie

HalcyonDaze · 30/01/2010 22:31

Edward is the stand-out name for me. I know it's quite popular at the mo but it's a classic and the nn options are fab.

Gregory....not sure why this doesn't appeal. Maybe it's something to do with the bakers? It's my least favourite off your list.

Louis..ok, really don't like it pronounced Lewis.

Arthur...this is my second favourite after Edward. Art as a nn is cool (but not as cool as Teddy!).

HarriedWithChildren · 07/02/2010 19:54

2 weeks to go or so. I'm increasingly partial to the Edward/Teddy option because it is more likely to get past DH and does go well with DS1 & 2.

I'll post our final choice.

I have an arthur and a henry - both fab names.

Not on your list but I'm also liking Wilfred at the moment but absolutely no more dc's here.

Pingpong · 07/02/2010 20:01

I like Edward
I prefer Gregor to Gregory
I don't like Arthur or Louis - sorry!
