Help! Twins due March and no names really hitting the spot!

DH and I are expecting our first babies, twins, early March. Don't know the sex. I have lots of girls names I like, not sure if I love them, and definately short on boys names. Preferences for girls names from our list please, other ideas welcome, and any boys name suggestions greatly received! Sorry girls list is long! I like fairly traditional, not to flouncy, not too popular and like nick names. Also like boy nicknames for girls. My username is what my friends 5 year old has called the babies!

You are wise to include details of your surname. Just a personal preference, but longer forenames sound better with a short surname, IMO.
We also have a one-syllable surname.
I love Alexander for a boy - maybe biased because our DD has that name. We also liked Sebastian and Dominic.
The girl names that you like are pretty and nice - what's not to like? Obviously if a DS was called Alexander, then Alexandra would be a no-no, but they are all nice. Lucy is my personal favourite on your list.
My Alexander's sister is called Olivia, but I realise that this is horribly popular right now. In my defence, she is 7 yo, and her name was chosen before there was a rush on that name

I am expecting twins and Harriet is on our girl's shortlist, along with Yasmin, Phoebe and Katie. Our boys names are Oliver, Harry or Joe. I've no idea how we are going to choose so you have my sympathies. Are you definately having one of each?

Gaah - I've done it again - we don't have a DD called Alexander - happily, he is a DS

A kind word of advice as these are your first children and you may not have been anywhere near a school for many years. Please check out the name statistics of the past few years before you make your choice. Much to my surprise, having not been up to date on names, I was absolutely amazed to find that in the school reception year of my DTDs(age 4) so many of the children had the same name and thus were known as e.g.Lily A, Ellie B, Grace C etc.etc.

The royals have some good strong names, current and previous, Elizabeth, Victoria, Philip, Edward etc.

My DS2 is Alexander but if he had been a DD he would have been Harriet, so obviously I like those two from your list!

I also love Dominic but it doesn't go with our surname.

Jonathan was my favourite for DS1 but a close relative used it first, I love that name and it's not even in the top 100!

Personally, lovely as they are, I would say that Charlie, Gracie, Lucy and Charlotte are too popular.

I love Miranda (but not Mizzie) - dd1 was nearly Miranda but it didn't go with our surname. We pondered Mimi for a nickname.
Harriet and Charlotte lovely too.

Alexander is okay - I'm not so fond of Charlie or Stanley. How about Benedict, Gabriel, Laurence, Lucas, Luke, Sebastian, Vincent, Barnaby, Rowan or Samuel? Just throwing random names out there but I like all of them!

MissingLink, I agree, I prefer a longer first name with one syllable surname, but then Stanley will inevitably get shortened to Stan, wonder if that matters? Whatever we choose will get shortened I suppose. No to Alexander and Alexandra then? Lucy is DH choice, not my fave though. Is pretty and nice enough, or do I want a bit more 'wow factor'?

Geepers, I think Harriet and Katie go nicely. I don't know if one of each or not. How about you?

Motherlovebone, I don't like any of those royal names (sorry royal family and anyone else!) Thomas is nice.

Dominic is nice but Dom as short just wouldn't sound right with our surname, maybe same for Thomas/Tom.

Not sure about Mimi for short, bit cutesy?

But v popular with my DCs' yrs (they are 10, 8, 6) are James, Matthew, Thomas, Oliver, William, Joseph.

Girls' names there are a lot of include Emily, Amelia/Emilia, Ellie, Alice, Hannah, Ella, Maisie, Molly.

All nice names but maybe best avoided now as will either be popular or sounding a few years out of date? (that's if you mind a name being popular of course, which many people do not, obviously, but you sound as if you may OP)

Meant also to say congrats and good luck with the twins. Also mean to say that if it's unusual you want, the names on yr list I don't know a child called are Maria, Harriet (which I like v much) and Miranda.

I've taught classes with 4 Toms, 4 Charlottes, 4 Emilys, 3 Rebeccas, 4 Daniels etc (not all at once!) and it does make me not choose names from the top ten.

Oh Maisie is not that popular - off the top of my head I can think of 3 (aged 5-8)which isn't many (I know a lot of children thru school).

Thing is about Maisie is that it will be misspelled if that bothers you - it's quite commonly spelled Maisy and one mum I know complains about misspellings. (I think she has a Maisy).

Good, I think Maisie is the top of my girls list! Sounds nice with our surname. I only know one(very old) Maisie. Oh and one dog! Not bothered about misspelling.

I like Harriet but may be biased as m 5-year-old is one (she goes by Hattie a lot of the time)! We went for Harriet because we liked that in time to come she could choose to call herself Harry which is another name we like.

If you were to go for any combination of Harriet/Charlotte/Georgia then you could end up with Harry/Charlie/George which may or may not appeal to you.

From your list of names the ones that don't feature in my school are: Harriet, Charlotte, Maria and Miranda. I can only think of a couple of Stanleys.

How about Matilda, Keziah, Imogen (could be 'Mo' or 'Jenny'), Judith, Felicity, Jemima, Eliza, Louisa, Beatrice, or Miriam?

For boys how about Henry, Rupert, Tobias, Benedict or Digby?
