Names that mean Star anyone know any?

Just having a muse really, DB4 will probably be DD4 and we would like to give her a middle name in honour of MIL who died last year, MILs name was Stella and this will not go with our proposed first name plus MIL hated her name anyway.

So am thinking is there another name which means Star, ideally it needs to be short as first name will be at least 3 syllables.

Any ideas?

Seren is really pretty, and yes, it is welsh for star.
Thre's a list here of names that mean star. some are pretty, some are pretty awful but lots of ideas

LadyThompson · 05/01/2010 17:31

Truoddsox - I already linked to that page above

Seren is not only Welsh. Seren Devi is the old name for Sri Lanka.

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 17:57

oohhh Elin is lovely - kitty, you can have Seren or Elin and yes I do get a say in it

feb80andthebump · 05/01/2010 18:04

Steren is the Cornish for star.

ThumbleBells · 05/01/2010 18:25

interesting to see that on that linked webpage Vega is listed as being the brightest star of 3 that make up the group "Lyra" - yet Lyra isn't listed as a name option!

Mind you it has got a bit over-used recently thanks to Philip Pullman, I suspect. I do like it though. I like Maya too but I think that's pretty popular as well.

Elin is lovely - I was also going to suggest as an alternative to all the star options that you could use "Ella" - as it is most of Stella but imo is prettier?

monkeysavingexpertdotcom · 05/01/2010 18:27

Seren. Beautiful, pronounced properly (widemouthed "e"s)

MinnieMummy · 05/01/2010 18:37

Oh that's v sweet SK, lovely idea. I vote for Elin or Seren too (and may even nab Seren for myself!!)

You seem certain it's another girl then?!

MinnieMummy · 05/01/2010 18:37

BTW SK you have made it onto a MN FB topic!!

MrsBadger · 05/01/2010 18:43

Tara is 'star' in Sanskrit

sweetkitty · 05/01/2010 18:55

sweetkitty · 05/01/2010 19:04

Citlali. But awfully difficult to pronounce by English speakers.

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 22:03

magbads - you need to read the Op more carefully

kitty - ignore him, silly man

castille · 05/01/2010 22:10

Our (Breton) neighbours have named their newborn DD2 Sterenn, which is Breton for star

QOD · 05/01/2010 22:13

Tara again here, means Star - is an Indian name - nice name too innit

ScottishBoris · 05/01/2010 22:16

Oooh I have a star theme for my sprogs. I love (love love love) Stella. I also like Seren, Estelle/Estella, Astrid (technically not star), Vega, Andromeda, Cassipoia, Astra and Nova - the last two are cars but I REALLY like Nova (highly underused IMHO).

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 22:19

Boris I knew a Nova in school and to suggest it never even occurred to me! lovely

ScottishBoris · 05/01/2010 22:31

Yay, it's so unusual for someone to like the same names as me (feel all warm and cuddly now). I really wanted to use Nova (or Astra) for both dds, but was put off by everyone I mentioned it too (mind you, I'm not sure anyone was that keen on the names we settled on ). Although, we are TTC no.3 so this time I will not be put off!!

jaype · 05/01/2010 23:00

Yay - can't believe I have found someone else who likes Nova (also went to school with a girl called this...). Hopefully this will be dd's name - due shortly. I am also sick of the 'vauxhall' comments and general nose-wrinkling at it but after calling dd1 Oriel I have developed an elephant's skin...
