Names that mean Star anyone know any?

Just having a muse really, DB4 will probably be DD4 and we would like to give her a middle name in honour of MIL who died last year, MILs name was Stella and this will not go with our proposed first name plus MIL hated her name anyway.

So am thinking is there another name which means Star, ideally it needs to be short as first name will be at least 3 syllables.

Any ideas?

There is the Slavic Zvezda, whose male version is Zvezdan (or Zvjezda/Zvjezdan). This has the added advantage of giving DC4 a very cool Z in his/her name!

This thread has just taught me that both my MN name and my RL name (which is very different) mean star - what a spooky coincidence!

Think it has been said already that Mary / Marie is related to star of the sea if Latin origin used, although Hebrew meaning is diff. I think it is something like "bitterly wanted child".

Anyway I like Marianne = Marie (star of the sea) + Anne (grace)

What about names meaning "light" like Lucy and Claire, as light comes from stars anyway?

jaype do it do it, then when dd3 arrives (I know it will be a gril ) I wont be the only one with a Nova!

jaype · 06/01/2010 09:46

Boris - I had a look at the ONS stats for last year and there were 8 of them. We are not alone in the Nova appreciation society! So here's to adding two to this year's list.

Realt (Railt) is irish for star. Realtin (Rail -teen) means little star

ScottishBoris · 06/01/2010 12:27

jaype - I'd love it to be this year. Here's hoping, I'm def using Nova if it's another girl (which it will be, going by by 2 dds and 3 dsds!).

Oriel's nice, but I bet you get a lot of Ariel/Little Mermaid comments.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 06/01/2010 17:39

Hello sweetkitty. Tis DonutMum from July08. I like Tara and think it'll be nice with the other girls. Seren is lovely too.

TeddyBare · 08/01/2010 23:06

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but how about a name of a constellation? www.perr.com/constellation.html has a lot of suggestions.

incandescent · 08/01/2010 23:32

Luna? It's kinda star-related...

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/01/2010 23:35

Seirian. (pron 'Serry-en).

BetterOnACamel · 28/06/2012 11:53

Tara or Sitara?

Pasiphae · 28/06/2012 14:26

Etoile? Izar? Twila/Twyla?
If we can go with actual stars, how about
Cassiopea? Lyra? Andromeda?

freerangeeggs · 28/06/2012 15:32

Hmmm. I wonder what she chose. Sorry about the double post

winkle2 · 28/06/2012 17:20

why not just go for Star?

sashh · 30/06/2012 04:48

What about ella? Not a star but Stella with the st dropped.

Andromeda - OK I know, not a star but I have just reread 'my sister's keeper'. Other constelations include Carina, Lyra and Vega.

Or what about just Star ?

sleeplessinderbyshire · 01/07/2012 18:52

Tara or Seren would be my top 2 here
