Aneurin Bevan would be an excellent person to be named for I think (founder of the NHS). But maybe you'd need to either have strong leftward leanings or a Welsh connection to really carry it off. I've always heard it pronounced An-ure-in. I guess spelling and pronunciation might be a nuisance.

New nephew is called Caspar, so am biased towards it. Rupert's sweet, and is Ralph if pronounced rafe rather than ralf (which sounds like a dodgy used car salesman from Surbiton imo).

Really don't like Dexter or Nye (unless Welsh).

Casper or Rupert.

Rupert is nice, but only if you're upper class.
Dexter is very on-trend and completely opposite in style to Rupert. I'm not keen, though I did once think it cool.
Casper - spelling looks odd, prefer Caspar, is vaguely okay, probably best here.
Ralph - perhaps, if pronounced Rafe.
Nye - nick name-ish in style, bland.

I love Casper and Rupert. Nye is a bit wierd, Dexter is really popular where I live and Ralph makes me think of that kid in The Simpsons.

Of your choices like Casper best and possibly Aneurin (sp) nm Nye.

Nye- neigh, well, I guess it could be OK if Aneurin is on bc, I don't like Nye on it's own
Ralph,-I don't hate this, never read judy blume though so Ralph to me has no penis connotations
Casper- it's OK but will always be a friendly ghost
Rupert- absolutely horrible imo, just because I hate rupert the bear
Dexter- serial killer/charlotte church offspring

DownwardDog what I meant was there is no nye sound in aneurysm. Its annyeerism. So it may look a bit similar but not sound like it at all.

Aneurin- pronunciation depends which part of Wales the speaker is from. Down the south bit they say 'an-eye-uh-rin',up the north the say 'an-yure-in' and in the middle it's more 'an-urr-in'.

Also, in England, be prepared for people to say 'you wha?' and look bemused.

Any lefties will know exactly who you mean and say it perfect each time.

A real test of education though - even when I say, Nye short for Aneurin, as in Bevan, I get blank faces.

We live in Wales, where it gets met with lovely reactions, but elsewhere it can tend to get 'you what?' - but then everyone loves it once they get to know him

Am soooo pleased we called him that. But def needs to be Aneurin on the birth certificate. Nye is just a nickname.

Dexter is as bad as Carter. It's a surname! In fact it's a family surname of mine so I find it very odd as a first name. Could quite possibly turn a bit the C word.

In German, Kasper is the name of a very well known (punch and judy) type Clown. So, if someone is silly, you will say "you're such a Kasper", or "don't Kasper around". In other words, it is a very silly name and not one you'd give to a child!

This may or may not bother you, but I'd thought I'd point it out anyway .

On the other hand, Jasper is a great name for a person .

Aneurin looks to me like Aneurysm. Love Casper.
