Pronounced as K-ay-lah, noy k-eye-ler (if that makes sense!!) me and dh like his name, but what are your opinions? Someone I spoke to said it sounds a bit 'chavvy'?? Honest opinions appreciated ! Thanks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It reminds me of the baby in "The Giggler Treatment" by Roddy Doyle. She is a cool baby who is loved by everyone in the family so much she doesn't need to say anything but "Ah bah".

annamama · 05/12/2009 08:56

I think Kayla will be the next big popular name here, it's lovely! In america it's quite popular, my DDs cousin (4) is called Kayla, she's not chavvy or white trash at all.

rollonbedtime · 05/12/2009 10:51

Sorry, but I don't like it at all. It does sound chavy.
I like traditional names, or at least ones with meaning.

CoteDAzur · 05/12/2009 20:37

Chavvy. As in the US. Anyone remember the name of the white trash woman's daughter who became Scavo's step-daughter? You guessed it: Kayla.

sarahsyrup · 07/12/2009 20:19

Have you read the book Freakonomics....

'Kayla is considered a "low-end" name, meaning it is primarily chosen by parents of low socio-economic status'

That's all I'm saying. Sorry.

pranma · 07/12/2009 23:04

Kylie,Kayleigh,Kayla,Kyla,
all a bit dated and not really 'grown up' names imho but I'm not keen on 'chavvy'as an adjective.

GrumpyYoungFogey · 07/12/2009 23:06

Kayleigh must be due a comeback, Transformers style, as all those named after the Marillion hit reach their quarter century.

Followed by Kylie in 2013.

persephoneplum · 08/12/2009 12:38

I really don't have any love for this rash of names which start with K and end in 'a'. Kayla/Kaila/Kyah/Kyla. Yick. Totally bogan.

Chaotica · 08/12/2009 12:50

Kayla is a real arabic, ethiopian and hebrew name, whatever it's socio-economic connotations. I like it.

Chaotica · 08/12/2009 12:52

sorry its (don't want to be accused of having chavvy grammar too)

xx

kid · 08/12/2009 12:54

I like it.

Mama2b5 · 19/12/2009 23:36

Kayla is a lovely name although some people may say its sounds chavvy ?????

There are also some names that are commonly for a more ethnic group and so that's why some people may be put off although i think that that should name your child what ever name you like!- go with how you feel and what you and your DH likes!

Good Luck (comment not meant to offend!)

MaggieAnFiaRua · 20/12/2009 22:05

its the c word. (it's quite pretty though!)

MaggieAnFiaRua · 20/12/2009 22:07

yes, Michaela is the only way to go.

and you must spell it Michaela. Not Mikayla...

its a popular name here in aus, but it is slightly "chavvy", or as we would say bogan

crazycat34 · 22/12/2009 10:33

Sorry, but it sounds like an old drunk clearing a lump of phlegm from his throat.

mrswill · 25/12/2009 21:37

Chav, low end, conjures up image of scrunchied ponytailed girl with gold knuckledusters, smoking a fag while trying to chat up some boy called Jayden.

Step away from the name

LynetteScavo · 25/12/2009 21:38

Kayla is fine for a girl.

Would be stupid for a boy.

BarbieLovesKen · 25/12/2009 22:03

Sorry, I cant relate this to a baby as its my dogs name.

tispity · 28/12/2009 21:17

i know a couple- it is very chavvy IMO
