Kayla for a girl?

Pronounced as K-ay-lah, noy k-eye-ler (if that makes sense!!) me and dh like his name, but what are your opinions? Someone I spoke to said it sounds a bit 'chavvy'?? Honest opinions appreciated ! Thanks.

It's not my cup of tea. It's sounds like it's short for something like Michaela.
But if you and your DH like it then that's all that matters.

To be honest I think it is a bit chavvy on its own.

Michaela isn't though, so I'd just have it as a nickname for that.

I think as a standalone name I prefer the Gaelic name Kyla to Kayla.

FWIW, my daughter has a name that has been referred to on here as "chavvy"

Well, you would only have to meet her, and us to see that we´re not!

but so is my name, and i seem to have coped in most circles... it hasn't exactly been a career enhancer though.

dh goes too far in the other direction and favours jolyon and sebastian. i'm sure there is a middle ground to be found, but it would make for very boring hatch, match columns...

if you like it, fair enough.

I know someone with a baby called Kayla May. I guess it could be seen as a bit chavvy but then so could the name I've chosen if we have a girl (Ayla). But if you like it, you should go with it. I think the chavviness really depends on the family. If you see a chavvy mum shouting at Kayla in the supermarket, you are immediately going to associate the name with chavviness, IYSWIM.

I know a 3yo Kayla and never once have I thought it chavvy. I like it.

angel I love it - and it's the name we've chosen for our dd due in February.

I don't think it's chavvy at all, I put it on here as a suggestion a few months ago and was met with either love it or hate it responses...

I don't care what anyone else thinks, my DH and I both love it - which to me is what matters. And my daughter with not be a chav!
